More About the Author

Stephen has been profoundly deaf since birth but that hasn't stopped him! He is a former Wall Street stockbroker where he won numerous sales awards and recognition in the coveted Executive Club three years in a row. In less than 4 years, he increased personal sales 1,700%. While in this position, he built and managed multi-million dollar investment portfolios for wealthy clients.

Stephen has been featured in a cover story for Careers and the Disabled, and interviewed on CNN, Detroit Fox 2 News and Buffalo News 4, to name a few. He has been profiled in numerous newspapers including The New York Times, The Detroit Free Press, The Oakland Press, Macomb Daily and has appeared on the national LEEZA talk show (Paramount), several cable television programs and countless radio shows including The Mitch Albom Show (author of best-selling "Tuesdays with Morrie").

Stephen is a man of intense passion who is known as a risk-taker with a capital R. In 1996, he stunned his family, friends and colleagues by giving up a lucrative six-figure Wall Street career to follow his divine calling of becoming an inspirational speaker and author. At that time, he had not spoken to a live audience since graduating from college 15 years earlier nor did he have any writing credentials.

In the mid-1990's, Stephen got his start in public speaking by speaking at Kiwanis, Rotary, Lion's and many other service organizations. Along the way, he's won numerous humorous speech contests while a member of Toastmasters.

Today, he speaks around the country and is contributing author of three books including best-selling Chicken Soup for the College Soul (July 1999), Heartwarmers (April 2000) and Magical Souvenirs: True Spiritual Adventures from Around the World (March 2002).

in 2011, he released his first book Obstacle Illusions: Transforming Adversity Into Success.

Format: Hardcover
I enjoyed reading Stephen Hopson's book Obstacle Illusions: Transforming Adversity into Success. He comes across as a very sincere hard-working risk-taker who wants to keep changing and evolving, learning from each experience--something that hopefully will inspire others to do the same and get out of the rut they've allowed themselves to wallow in. Stephen's transparency will allow readers to see themselves more clearly.

I mention this because Stephen innocently shares his realizations of all that happened to him in his life. He sees it was all for him, and not to him; he's not a victim. Those incidents and people allowed him to learn, grow, and evolve as a human being. They were there to help him fulfill his life's ambitions, whether he knew it or not at the time.

Read the book in chronological order. If you don't you could be missing out on a very special experience. The last chapter is very powerful. It's the climax of the book. I was literally shaking with excitement as tears were rolling down my cheeks. Even though this chapter is out of chronology, Mr. Hopson was wise to have placed it at the end of the book.

Stephen's story also demonstrates the power of gratitude when we lovingly, unselfishly want to thank those for whom we are grateful. Events move in our favor to fulfill such a pure desire in ways we never would have imagined, bringing great joy to everyone involved.

Enjoy reading Obstacle Illusions. I know I did!

The world's first deaf instrument rated pilot
A sought after transformational speaker
A published writer praised by several #1 New York times authors
I've known Stephen J. Hopson for several years as a "blogging buddy."

He was one of the first comments on my blog except for the other three readers - one friend and two relatives.

He has become a friend. A wonderful friend.

I was eager to read his book, Obstacle Illusions - Tranforming Adversity Into Success . I have heard some of the stories along the way and knew writng this book had been a dream for years.

It arrived today and although I had plans, I thought I would just take a peek at the first chapter.

I was hooked. I sat down and read the whole book. I could not stop.

Slice an afternoon out of your schedule. Pull up a chair.

This is not your usual self help book.

You are about to have a transformational experience.

Some of his stories are funny, others so profound, they may change your life.

Every one will change your heart.

As Stephen says in his introduction -

ARE YOU READY TO ROLL UP YOUR SLEEVES AND GET INSPIRED?

COME ON IN.

Certain people have a gift to inspire others and Stephen Hopson is one of those individuals. His story as told in "Obstacle Illustions: Transforming Adversity into Success" is one that has me be thankful for the gifts I have as well as the obstacles. I learn more from obstacles than anything else. However, the whole thing boils down to my choice: do I see my obstacles as hindrances that make me stop or do I move past them and focus on my gifts?

I had the pleasure of meeting the author in person. His attitude towards life and how he lives is a tribute to all human beings. He does not use the fact that he has been deaf since birth as an obstacle at all. He asks you to speak facing him so he can read your lips, he speaks clearly and succintly and has the best attitude about life. Many people would feel defeated by being deaf. Not Stephen. And that is something we all can learn from.

I highly recommend this book. Put your life into persepctive. Make each day count and live your life to the fullest.
