Obvious- Obviously the best,
By Kelly Hunkel (Monterey, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Obvious (Audio CD)
This album is really great. I have to admit that the first time I listened through it, I wasn't impressed. But when I went through it again, I loved it. I was singing along even though I'd heard the songs only once. This is the breakdown of the songs:1. Camoflauge- This song is being played on the radio a lot where I live so before the CD was even out, I knew and loved this song. It talks about how we shouldn't be trying to blend in with the crowd as Christians, because we should be trying to tell people about God. It's a great motivation. 2. Use Me- This song is a song written for God. It's the guys telling God to use them. Some lyrics are: "Use me, teach me, I wanna go wherever you lead me." It's something Christians sometimes don't do, but we should because God should be able to mold our lives in his hand, we shouldn't be trying to live the way we want... it's up to God. 3. Let Me Be The One- The first slow song on the CD I actually think is a love song, but it can be a love song from God to us, or from a guy to a girl. Some lyrics include: "Let me be the one, leading you through the night, sharing the smiles and tears you cry, let me be the one lovin' you when you're weak, for all of the strength you need, you can come to me." 4. Under The Influence- This song is about being drunk... not in the sense we think of as with alcohol, but being full of God. When you're drunk on alcohol, you regret it later, but with God's love you never regret it because it keeps on giving. This song lets people know that God is the best thing you could be drunk on. 5. You- This song is my favorite... it's a love song. It talks about "I want, I need, I crave, I breathe, I feel, I hold, I dream, I know, I trust, I love... you" It's a very sweet slow song. 6. I Don't Care- This song is dealing with the issue of putting God before you. It says "I don't care what they say, I'm gonna do it your way. Even if I'm afraid, don't wanna make you look fake. I don't care about anything, it's not about me." It's not about us, it's about God. We should think on the terms of: Who cares what I want? If I tell someone about the Lord and they accept Him, nothing else matters. This song tells people that. 7. Kick Me- This song deals with friendships. It's talking about how human friends kick you and can bring you down, but God's friendship helps you through anything. He never leaves you or forsakes you, but humans might. This song is a great way of telling you that Jesus is the only friend you need. 8. Going Crazy- This song is talking about how without God, we'd all be going crazy. And with God, He saves us from being crazy. He controls our lives (if we allow it). Some lyrics are: "I don't wanna think that I don't need You with me. You are my security, now that I got it I can't go without it cause I need you, need you to keep from going crazy." 9. Start To Fly- Another of my favorites because not only of the lyrics, but the catchy tune. This song is telling teenagers (or just anyone) that even if your life is down the toilet and you have nothing left to live for, God's there. He wants to spend eternity with you in His kingdom. He's everything that you need and you can begin breathing and flying with Him. Some lyrics are: "Just close your eyes, hold on tight. You don't have to be afraid, He is with you all the time. You'll be free, full of peace and everything that you need, it is right there can't you see." 10. Calling Down An Angel- This song is about how when life gets tough and you need help, call down an angel. If you need someone to help you believe just pray and ask for help. God will send it through an angel. I love the lyrics to this song, a few are: "There's hope beyond the struggle, just hold on, I'm calling down an angel... So keep believing, the sun always promises a new day, it'll stop the rain, break the chains and chase the pain away... Heaven's holding ever single tear you cry and if you start to feel alone just know that I am calling down an angel..." 11. Forever- This song is about eternity. It's forever. Where are you going? "Forever is a long time to be without you in my life. I wanna keep you by my side cause forever is a long time." God will be there through anything, forever. 12. Who Am I- This song is so incredible. It's about how God knows your name, he planned your life before time even began. "Who am I without your love? I cannot live without your touch. You hold my hand and walk me through, all I need is you. Who am I without your love? I cannot breathe without your touch. You make me complete, I bow at your feet. For me you came to die, who am I?" We are so small yet God loves us so much. It's amazing. What makes us so special? What makes us worthy of His love? Nothing, but God is so great the despite all of our sins (anything we think, say or do that displeases God) He still loves us as a son or a daughter. It's amazing. This CD is a great witnesses tool and a great CD to listen to if you're having a bad day. God loves us at all times, and this CD makes it OBVIOUS

It Is NOT The Plus One from THE PROMISE!!!,

I was very much surprised when I got the Obvious CD and it turned out so much different. I had doubts about it, but now I think it's awesome!!! It's a little bit on the heavy music side, but the choruses are COOL!! I LOVE IT!!! The songs are all wonderful! The `Going Crazy,' I Don't Care,' and `Kick Me' songs are really good, if you like that kind of music. I do, and no matter how heavy the songs are, the message is great. I feel that way sometimes too. The songs `Who Am I,' `Forever,' `Calling Down an Angel' and `You' are more of what one would call the younger Plus One band. Light and beautiful. I totally fell in love with all of the songs!!I hope you all get to hear it, and I hope it touches you like it did me.....

My fav. band,

Plus one has been my favorite group for the past couple of years. When I first heard The Promise I thought "I have to get a copy!" So I did. I listened to that for about a year before getting Obvious for Christmas 2002. Now I know all the songs by heart! I have to admit my sister and parents hate this CD. But they don't care if I get my head phones and listen to it. The great songs are Camouflage (an energetic song about not hiding our faith from others), Use me (a song that says how we want to be used by God), Let me be the one (this one tells us how much God wants to lead us and protect us and help us get through), Under the influence (this song is a broadcast that we love God and how he helps us to become more than we are), You (this song talks of a person who thought he didn't need God but found him and realized how wrong he was), I don't care (this song says that we don't care what others think of our faith but that we will do whatever God wants us to do), Kick me (this song tells the Christians that put others down because that other person has made a mistake to not blame them because they themselves have stumbled down the path and taken a wrong turn), Going crazy (this song tells how hard life is without God and His guidance and how we can't live without Him), Start to fly (this song is meant for people who don't have a deep enough connection with God and not enough faith and how they shouldn't give up because what's happened in their past), Calling down an angel (this is for those who have doubts about God and how He's going to help them find that He is true), Forever (Forever is a long time to be without you in my life, I wanna keep you by my side `cause forever is a long time. The chorus), and Who am I? (Who am I without God? What could describe it better?). And ten of these great songs are written by the band members. I think anyone from about age 8 to age 20 will love this (provided you're christian).

Obviously they are talented!,

Two years after releasing their contemporary Christian chart-breaking album "The Promise", Plus One released a significantly different album with "Obvious". Gone were the bubble-gum sounding songs from the first one, replaced instead with more edgier songs, evidencing their growth as both individuals and as a group.Although most people I know like "Obvious" more than "The Promise", this second CD never achieved the same success as the first one. Only one song, "Forever", received any major Christian radio airplay, although couple of other songs did get some airplay on mainstream radio stations. At the end of 2002, after a successful tour, Plus One experienced even more changes. First, Jason Perry left the group to pursue a solo career. Then, in early 2003, Jeremy Mhire left the group to get married and pursue other interests. The remaining three members have decided to continue the group without adding anyone else and are scheduled to release the first album since the changes in late 2003. We'll have to wait until then to see how the changes will affect the sound of the group. But if "Obvious" was any change of the groups growth, I think they will be just fine. Being the last album released by Plus One as a quintet, you certainly need to add this album to your collection.

"Obviously" the best album by Plus One!,
By Clare (Venice, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Obvious (Audio CD)
I liked Plus One's debut album a lot, but I have to admit that Obvious is "Obviously" the best album of the two. Here's why:1.) Lyrics: okay, the lyrics in the first album weren't too bad, but I was really impressed with the lyrics in the songs in this CD. I love the song "Kick Me": Why can't you be there for me? A friend is no where to be found. Why do you kick me when I'm down? 3.) Photos: =o) Alright, I just had to add it. You knew the CD cover thing? Well besides the lyrics, there's also tons of photos of the cute guys of Plus One! Muah!! Altogether, this is a worth-while CD. But be warned, if you don't like boybands, this CD shouldn't be on your wishlist. And that's O.K. - that'll just leave more stuff for us fans!! hehe. =o)

Great CD,

Truly an excellent CD, Plus One is a group that is not only delivers fun and hip music, but also delivers good messages to their listeners as well. The album's 12 tracks are all well written and performed. Some of the highlights of the CD include "Camouflage", a high energy song about standing out and being different for Christ, "Forever", a beautiful ballad to God, "Calling Down An Angel", another beautiful ballad about caring for others and wanting to bring them to Christ, and "Kick Me", a song about how we should forgive others and treat them the way Christ does. My favorite song is probably "Going Crazy", which is a truthful song about how life would be chaos without Christ's love and guidance. This CD is wonderful and I would defiantly recommend it.

It's OBVIOUS!,

This review is from: Obvious (Audio CD)
Plus One's new CD is AWESOME! The songs are great and it is wonderful that they all have a spiritual background. The music is very good. Some songs like Camoflauge and Going Crazy have a great fast beat. Others like Let Me Be The One and Who Am I are wonderful slower songs. I rated this CD 5 stars because I don't think you can get better than great music with the Lord in it.

Obvious lives up to it's name,
By Sarah (Sacramento Ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Obvious (Audio CD)
I only gave this incredible new album by the incredible band Plus One four stars, because there is always room for improvement. When i first heard their first album, The Promise,I was very impressed by their sound, vocally and musically, but I was less than happy about the way they seemed to tip-toe around their christianity in their lyrics. It was hard to distinguish if the songs where to their girl-friends or God. Jesus's name was only mentioned once. They seemed like they where playing it safe, trying to blend in with everybody else. Well in "Obvious," the first thing you'll hear from the guitar-driven "Camoflage" is that they're SICK of trying to blend in. THe theme of living loud for God and being a witness for Him is picked up in other songs like "Use Me" or "I don't care". "Who am I?" is a humble pray of surrender that could ONLY be used in reference to GOd. Along with more clear lyrics, comes a more clear and edgy sound that sets Plus One apart from the average boy-band and makes their already danceable sound even more engerizing and enjoyable. And because 10 of the songs where penned by the boys themselves, we know that it is actually them who are giving us such a nice gift. Despite these pros, there are still a few cons. The boys address their problems, but give no reference to scripture and Jesus's name is not mentioned at all. All though this talented band has grown spiritually and musically, they still have a way to go before their album is as "Obvious" about their faith as it could be. A great acheivement, but if they continue in the direction of uncompromised sound AND uncompromised lyrics, their third album will be better.

completely satisfying,

This CD combines great positive, uplifting lyrics with crazy new beats and slow tender melodious mixtures. Plus One is a very talented group of young men trying to break the unfortunate 'Boy-Band' mold that all young male groups are placed into. Most of the songs are actually written by the band members and it's nice to see songs that are attractive to the ear and bring a message that's not about some girl or party or the same ol thing everybody else is writing about. If you want to support artists who are true, original, and deserving of record sales, this is the ablum for you to purchase. I have actually met Nathan of Plus One and he is an extremely talented, down to earth, fun loving typical guy, and I'm sure the other 4 guys are the exact same way. Job well done boys.

Praise God for mainstream!,
By Dawn (Belleville, IL USA) - See all my reviews

The "Obvious" release is definitely a great achievement. Kids who listen to mainstream artists like N'Sync, Backstreet Boys & Britney Spears now have a Christian alternative. These gentlemen from Plus One will be able to reach those kids with the message of Christ and of Love. I pray, and hope you will too, that they will hit the MAINSTREAM airways. For those nay sayers out there that say more about God, Jesus and scripture need to be put in the lyrics obviously didn't listen to music before they were a Christian. Plus One has a Godly message, and their hearts are in touching others lives for Christ! They do not need to be quoting scripture in their music in order to be a witness. My point is that the kids that listen to the mainstream bands out there will not want to get "preached" at, yet they still need the message of love and PLUS ONE HAS DONE THAT!Thank you guys, and continue on in Christ knowing there are fans out there keeping you in our thoughts and prayers! |
