4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative...a worthwhile read
If you're interested in gaining knowledge of secret societies and their power and political influence throughout the ages then this book is for you. Michael Howard appears to possess a vast knowledge of these occult groups, from early paganism and Rosicrucians to todays Masons. His writings on the Vatican and also of the Third Reich will astonish. Everyone of power is...

2.0 out of 5 stars Riddled with Errors
Although I know nothing about the occult or secret societies, I know something about history and something about spelling, and this book is riddled with errors in both. Taking aside the spelling, which stems from a simple lack of editing, the historical errors are troubling in that they throw everything the author says into doubt. 2.0 out of 5 stars Riddled with Errors, April 12, 2001
By
This review is from: The Occult Conspiracy: Secret Societies--Their Influence and Power in World History (Paperback)
Although I know nothing about the occult or secret societies, I know something about history and something about spelling, and this book is riddled with errors in both. Taking aside the spelling, which stems from a simple lack of editing, the historical errors are troubling in that they throw everything the author says into doubt. If the author believes that George Washington became a Mason in 1734, when he was two years old, and died in 1789, when in fact he was still kickin' a decade later, how can we believe the rest of what he says? Similarly, the report of the suppression of the Knights Templar doesn't tally with historical records of events, and the author chooses to accept as gospel truth the "confessions" of the Templars, which most historians disregard as being extracted under torture.

When he does come up with a startling and interesting fact (or what he claims is a fact) as often as not he leaves it lying there, and immediately goes on to talk about something else.

This is, all in all, a frustrating book to try to read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Research Material--for Beginner/refers to good books, July 27, 2000
This review is from: The Occult Conspiracy: Secret Societies--Their Influence and Power in World History (Paperback)
This is a great book to add to your collection, if you are interested in, or research, Secret Societies. It has been a long time, since I read this one, but this book gave me good reference material to research & many other books of this genre refer to Howard's book. Add it to your collection, so it will be on-hand when you see quotes in other works.

The information provided by another reader is true--the information about George Washington is completely in Error in "The Occult Conspiracy." I have posted the same information in clubs, but I forgot to return to this review and Update my findings.

"A New Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry," by A.E. Waite & other sources discount much of the material in "The Occult Conspiracy."

However, this books is useful as a reference book/bibliography.

4.0 out of 5 stars Strange Trip Through Religion and Politics., June 4, 2003
By
zonaras (Jimbo's House of Pie) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Occult Conspiracy: Secret Societies--Their Influence and Power in World History (Paperback)
THE OCCULT CONSPIRACY by Michael Howard starts off with the misunderstood revelation that occultism is not always practiced by fringe individuals but is well established in the echelons of the world's ruling elite. The sources that Howard used in compiling this book are a who's who of popular arcane researchers and conspiracy theorists among which are Nesta Webster's "Secret Societies", Clark's "Occult Roots of Nazism", the theory of Christ's bloodline--"Holy Blood, Holy Grail", and books by New Age philosopher Manly P. Hall.

The viewpoint of this book is rather vague, and is not easy to pick up right away. There is an apparent conflict between traditional religion, especially Christianity and its largest sect, Catholicism, and secret, esoteric teachings as propounded by different groups linked together through the millenia with similar beliefs and objectives: Gnosticism, Manicheanism, Knights Templar, Rosicrucians, Freemasons, the Illuminati and radical leftism in the 1800s and 1900s. These secret societies have different doctrines, but they are all opposed to traditional Christianity, especially in their endorsement of a universal religion, one world government, the "feminine principle" of God, and the abolition of traditional religious, cultural and ethnic ties. "Liberty, Equality and Fraternity" is their catchphrase. The great events of the past 250 years have their roots in secret society intrigue and have adopted occult symbolism: the American Revoloution, French Revoloution, rise of the British Empire, German Nationalism, Marxism, Russian Revoloution, Nazism, formation of the UN, New Age movement, 1960's radicalism, and the rise of today's "post-Christian" society. All the tumult, it is supposed, is caused by the advent of the Age of Aquarius (supposedly to take place in 2025) which will, in the mind of occultists, usher in a humanist utopia on earth.

There are a lot of flaws with this book. The author fails to give the book any real sort of context, except for its mystical pinko-liberalism. It rather posists a "conspiracy against the vast right-wing conspiracy" and claims that the secret society members are crusaders for human freedom against the oppression of Christianity and the old world order.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good information, November 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Occult Conspiracy: Secret Societies--Their Influence and Power in World History (Paperback)
Unfortunately, this book has a huge number of typos. One is very ridiculous: Bostonia, instead of Bosnia. Otherwise this book has a lot of behind-the-closed -doors information. The author made a great effort to put together such information. The chapter about the occult and anti-Christian origins of Hitler's ideology is truly great. This book is written from a white magic point of view, and presents the anti-Christian New Age movement (with all its aspects: feminism, permissive sexuality, ecology etc) as the future religion. Strange, but the author of this book that reveals so well conspiracies, is pro-conspiracy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Overview, May 11, 1997

This review is from: The Occult Conspiracy: Secret Societies--Their Influence and Power in World History (Paperback)
A briefing on the alleged occult history of western civilization. From ancient sources to the catholic church itself, the Templars, the OTO, the nazis and up to today's CFR and other mega-elitists, this book is a nice introduction to all the weird stuff thats been going on ever since we became "civilized". Most of this material I have seen elsewhere, but not in so compact and pervasive a volume

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book and worthwhile read!, May 2, 2006
This review is from: The Occult Conspiracy: Secret Societies--Their Influence and Power in World History (Paperback)
This is one of the most profound parts in this book that is factually true:

"Wallace's reasons for wanting to introduce the Great Seal onto the American currency were based on his belief that America was reaching a turning point in her history and that great spiritual changes were imminent. He believed that the 1930s represented a time when a great spiritual awakening was going to take place which would precede the creation of the one-world state."

- Michael Howard, The Occult Conspiracy, p.95

To the person who says it was riddled with errors but yet admits he does not know a lot about secret societies and the occult should take this book more seriously. It takes a lot of courage and risk to write about this often misunderstood and untalked about subject that goes on every day. The people who are victims need to be redeemed and a book like this can do it. It is sad that the people in real power do not care about the general public but only about their own agendas, feelings and ambitions. This is why we have wars and deceptions. Really to those who truly understand the inner workings of the people in power should not be surprised about any of this. There is so much more than this book covers but I give Mr. Howard great support in what he does. Very few people even in church either believe or want to deal with what goes on underneath the veil of the surface of what is revealed to the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars The History of Secret Societies!, July 13, 2011
This review is from: The Occult Conspiracy: Secret Societies--Their Influence and Power in World History (Paperback)
Michael Howard's book on the Occult Conspiracy opens a door into the history and the world of secret societies whether they are the freemasons, Knights Templar, Illuminati, the Priory of Scion, and countless others into determining their impact on world history.

Michael Howard has written a detailed, descriptive book with a focus on history intertwined and analysis of how the secret societies have determined everything from financial stability to wars. The secret societies have been around since the beginning of time. In the chronology, he suggests that extra terrestial contact may have been going on for thousands of years before we acknowledged them in the world.

His chapter on the Occult and Nazis is quite informative and detailed. His writing also explains how the Bilderburg Group may have a part in determining World events, economic growth, wars, and how a small group of powerful people are involved in determining those decisions. I think he could have wrote more about it but little is really known about such secret organizations at all.

Anyway, if you are interested in the Occult Conspiracy and the history from the beginning. This book will be a good start in learning about them and how they exist in the world today.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not error-free, but these errors do not effect conclusions, March 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Occult Conspiracy: Secret Societies--Their Influence and Power in World History (Paperback)
A previous commentator suggested that the book was riddled with errors and somehow suggests the book's conclusions are inaccurate because of that.

Yes, Howard screws up on the year of death (1799) of George Washington, but is, in fact, correct on his birth (1732). And if no one noticed, Howard claims that the King David started the building of the first temple. This is also incorrect. It was King Solomon that built the first temple because King David had been forbidden by God to build it because of King David's sin of adultery.

However, though there are errors like these, it does NOT change the fact that there was a temple built in Jersualem about the time of King David & Solomon or that George Washington was a mason.

Though one cannot use the book as scholarly work (a reference) because of the errors, the conclusions are still pretty interesting and revealing.

5.0 out of 5 stars good book on conspiracy theory, February 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Occult Conspiracy: Secret Societies--Their Influence and Power in World History (Paperback)
Howard presents a good case for the conspiracy theory of history. There is an impression of delicious irony in the book. Who would have believed that occultists are behind the conspiracy. Many people think of them as kooks. If Howards case is true - he presents a convincing one- then occultists appear to be the wise ones and the rest of us are the fools.
