Great book for understanding site occupancy modeling,
By
This review is from: Occupancy Estimation and Modeling: Inferring Patterns and Dynamics of Species Occurrence (Hardcover)
I think this is a pretty good book. It is the only reference on this relatively new type of patch occupancy modeling. It is mainly focused on the models of MacKenzie et al. and the Royle and Nichols model. This is a great place to start if you know nothing about this method or a good reference for advanced users.
This book does not fill the need of an introductory "how-to" book. If you want to know how to set up models and run them in program PRESENCE or MARK you will need to wait. Such a book does not exist. This is not a cookbook, but a compilation of the theory and an explanantion of the methodology behind occupancy estimation.

This review is from: Occupancy Estimation and Modeling: Inferring Patterns and Dynamics of Species Occurrence (Hardcover)
This book gathers the most recent improvements for wildlife species presence absence models, a recurrent problem in ecology research. In a brilliant way, MacKenzie and his co-authors present the results of their last papers and discuss in a didatic manner the applications of simple improvements in statistical models that make them more than usefull for field ecologists, decision makers and others interested in biodiversity conservation.

The book for occupancy,

This review is from: Occupancy Estimation and Modeling: Inferring Patterns and Dynamics of Species Occurrence (Hardcover)
This is the book for occupancy modeling. The methods and theory are well explained. The applications for ecology and wildlife management are clear. I wish the limitations were spelled out a bit more as it seems that many are starting to believe this is the magic bullet without a complete understanding of the limitations.

Took a little while to receive it here in Central America. But it was OK.
