I bought this item on a whim, needing another Wii remote. I'm a big Dr Who fan, so I thought this one would be perfect. I was a little turned off by the high price, but there is a reason for the price. No one mentions in the item description that the remote has a built in battery the recharges though the usb on the Wii, with a provided mini usb cord. This is great, no batteries needed out of the box, just charge and use. The remote holds a good charge for over 12 hours. I am very happy with the quality and sturdiness of the remote. It is a little bigger that the normal remote, but its fine once you get used to the size. An awesome addition to my Wii accessories. I might even buy another one because of how cool and useful the remote is.

The remote is great but too bad I can't use it since it won't charge! The red light on the back always blinks instead of staying solid like the instructions say, at first I thought that it wouldn't matter if the red light would blink but after a few hours of having it plugged in it had no charge! so I'm asking to anyone who has this problem to help me if you've found a way to charge it because this is already my second remote and I don't want to be sending objects back just to order another one that will not work for the same reasons.

None of the details about this remote matter. It will not charge. Just like so many others here I received a remote that will not charge. The red light just flashes.
Since my wife is a huge Dr. Who fan I figured I'd try to fix the remote. After taking the remote apart I noted that it used a cheap LiPo (Lithium Poly) battery. I figured that the most likely failure was in the LiPo battery, so I ordered a 500mah 3.7v LiPo helicopter battery for about $7 shipped. The battery I received was substantially larger than the original battery so I had to take a Dremel to the inside of the remote to get it to fit. If you try the same I'd go with a about a 250mah battery...
I had to splice the power connector from the old battery onto the new pack, but after installing the remote works like a champ. Charges wonderfully and lasts quite a while on a charge...

This is well,... come on just awesome! It is a wii remote that is a very decent doctor who replica... but then there is the flaw the battery. Whom ever they decided to go with for this remote's battery was just despicable.

I opened mine up immediately once i got it home and saw the battery was inflated, I fly RC planes and when a li-ion battery does this you know its time to toss it. it will have 0 volts and will NOT be chargeable.

so i went and grabbed my voltmeter and plugged it into a USB outlet and read the new voltage and i got around 4v and the battery is 500 ma so perfect.

I grabbed my old rechargeable camera battery and Voila just a simple solder or tape job for anyone and your remote will work 100% again.

There is enough room inside for a AA size battery which if you go on amazon there are many available for 3.7v @ 1000 mAh at about $5 totally worth it considering how cool looking this remote is.

Just the other day, as I was using my wii remote to watch Doctor Who on Netflix, I thought to myself, "This would really be better if it was more sonic!"

I bought this thing almost as soon as I saw it. Quite serendipitously, it arrived the very next day. It looks almost exactly like the sonic screwdriver in the TV show. (with the exception of the wii remote buttons). It has an internal rechargeable battery and includes a usb cable for charging. It is lighter to hold than I would have expected, which is not bad. As a wii remote it works very well, it's about the same price as the Wii Remote Controller made by nintendo. It is compatible with both the nunchuck controller and the wii motion plus. I've been using it for about 5 days now with absolutely no performance issues. My only complaint is that there are no sonic screwdriver lights or sound. (I'll just have to buy a Dr. Who: The Eleventh Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver)

Bottom line:

Just buy it.

It seems to be lighter weight than a regular Wii controller. I've read complaints about hitting the home button by mistake. The buttons are raised much, so I don't see how they're doing it. My only complaint is that it doesn't work well with my cordless nunchuck and sometimes have problems with the corded nunchuck. For me it's more comfortable to hold/grip than a regular controller.

Not only is this remote great for any Doctor Who fan BUT it also handles like a dream. I usually hate Wii remotes because after a while the bulky design hurts my hand. But the Sonic Screwdriver is sleek and feels like an extension of your hand not just another remote. The only disappointing thing is that the remote doesn't light up or sound like a sonic screwdriver. I ordered two, because I hate sharing.

I purchased this under the influence that it wouldn't charge, so I kept every part of the box only to find out that mine worked perfectly! My only complaint is that you need to have a normal one to play because you can't just press the "A" button to have it connect, you need to go to the wii menu and press "reconnect remotes" for it to work.
