1-125 Scale. rom the North Pole to the South, from the shallows to the deeps, exploration vessels undertake a variety of ocean exploration assignments, acting as floating science laboratories. Originally this 42 m long ship was an American mine-sweeper that was launched in 1942. The US Navy made her available to Great Britain who used her in the Mediterranean in World War II. After the war the ship remained in the Mediterranean and was converted into a ferry, until she was taken over by an oceanographer in 1950. This oceanographer fundamentally redesigned the vessel and installed specific exploration equipment aboard for research purposes. Like the ship, the model has hydrojet- propelled submarines, an additional rubber dinghy and a Hughes 300C helicopter. The helicopter lands on a pad installed aft. The two-part hull of the model is a true-to-original structural reproduction with striking observation portholes in the bow. Two diver figures and two sharks are also included.Detailed two-piece hull with observation ports, Detailed decks with rails, Helicopter landing pad, Rotating crane aft, Hughes 300C helicopter, 2 diver figures with shark cage, 2 sharks, Rubber dinghy, 2 tenders, 3 submarines, Display stand and  Decals. I recently received the model kit by USPS in a well
packed and solid cardboard box, within a very reasonable
time since the parcel had to cross the border to Canada.

The kit is very detailed and all parts are
well defined. I was looking for an original
Revell's CALYPSO kit, which was no longer
available from the manufacturer, but the company
produced this version, which is exactly the same,
but without the CALYPSO name and decals. This is
probably due to copyright and royalty issues.
This way, I believe Revell can offer the kit
at a better price.

And I was lucky to find a supplier in France who sold
to me, at a very reasonable price (once again), the exact
CALYPSO decals (1/125) needed to complete my project as
the CALYPSO. This way, I was able to finally obtain this
kit, which is an exact replica of the original Revell's
Calypso, for one quarter or one fifth of the price that
I would have to pay for a vintage Revell model, and that's
if I'm lucky to find one.

So this kit is a perfect model and project which yields a
magnificent CALYPSO, probably the most important and
influencial diving vessel of the last century.

It certainly made an impact in my life since I became a
commercial diver...
