"Ocean" is a great introduction to Buddhism in general, and Shin Buddhism (Jodo-shinshu) in particular. The book is easy to read, and there are enough "stories" to keep it interesting, but not so many that it becomes a "story book". Although intended for those new to Buddhist thought, it is just as "useful" for those raised Buddhist, and in need of a better understanding of what they were taught, or a way to explain their religion to others.
