I had a sickly betta for many months and upon recovery, I decided to make his water as close to natural as possible. So I decided to try Betta Spa. Yes it turns the water a light tea color BUT that is nothing in comparison to my fish' health... in a matter of the first week of using it, his health improved %100! He became much more alert, active, curious, and makes HUGE bubble nests every other day! I can truly see that he is much happier since I've added the Betta spa. I highly recommend it. Your betta will enjoy it. And since Ive been using it, no relapse in ill health has occured. Thank goodness!

When I first saw this product, I was pretty convinced that it was a gimmick. I mean, there are so many betta products directed at people who don't know much about the species - betta 'treats' (aka bloodworms), betta 'exercisers' (aka a mirror), betta 'condos' (tiny aquariums to stick two fish in instead of one), the list goes on and on and on. So I just shrugged when my roommate brought this home for her betta.

Fast forward a month or so. I had purchased a beautiful half-moon mustard gas male about the same time my roommate had purchased her black crowntail, and both had been living happily without the use of Betta Spa. I was doing a water change one night using a plastic tube when my betta swam up to it and got sucked in and stuck. I had to get scissors and carefully cut him free. When I got him out, he was completely unresponsive and I was afraid he was dying because not only was he unable to move, his ghost shrimp tankmates rushed over to pick at him when I placed him back in. Since he was still breathing, I quarantined him. Without other medication on hand, and with all the pet stores closed for the day, I decided to try the Betta Spa because, well, I had nothing to lose.

The next morning he was still alive, despite missing half his scales and with rips in his tail fin. He even made an attempt at eating. The next week showed remarkable progress as he began swimming again and eating everything in sight. He was back to normal, though still missing large patches of scales, in two weeks from the incident. There was no visible infection at all. I was extremely impressed with Atison's Betta Spa after that, and will be purchasing and using it for all my future fish.

My poor Betta's fins were badly damaged on some crappy plastic plants I had in his tank and his recovery was slow. Once I added the betta spa he seemed much more energetic, alert and happy. His recovery has sped up enormously and he can almost swim normally again (He's even blowing bubbles, which he never did even before his injury!). I've been using the larger of the two dosing options with every tank cleaning and it does make the water a little brownish, but it's worth it. I have just started using the smaller dosage and it's really not all that noticeable. I highly recommend this for both sick and healthy betta fish.

The only thing better might be Indian Almond leaves, themselves. Contrary to one reviewer it DOES NOT STAIN THE AQUARIUM. It does turn the water tea-brown, which is the natural color of water in the Betta's native habitat. Our 35 bettas are more colorful, hungry, and free-from-disease than before we started using it. We even put it in the tank with new-born fry.

I am sorry I purchased this bottle as you don't get much for your money. It seems to be
dilluted as well, instead of full strength. I base this on making my own from a tea.
It is 125ml bottle which converts to 4.2 ounces. I should have researched the ingredients as well,
before buying. Of course they don't want to tell you that....

It has a couple of chemicals in it. Sodium Benzoate for one.
Sodium Benzoate is a preservative and some google info claims
it is cancer causing.Preservatives can't be good for our cells let alone a tiny fish.
I understand the companys need to preserve the product for shelf life, but sorry,
that can't be helping the fish to heal. It also has Sodium Hydroxymethylglicinate whatever the heck that is.
For these reasons I will not buy again.

I have had better results with buying Indian Almond leaves and steeping them like a tea,
not boiling, and then saving it to add to fresh water. I use a small amount of the tea, only enough
to turn the water light amber, OR I sometimes just put a SMALL piece
of Indian Almond leaf,on top of the water. ( I buy here on Amazon or on Ebay) ,,,,,

The leaf piece does float there and eventually sink and turns the water amber. I make sure the size
I break off the leaf is not too big depending on the tank or fish bowl size, so the water is not
too alkaline and dark colored. This I believe in excess, can cause the water ph to be wrong, for the fishe's fins and scales.

It does take time for it to leach out of the leaf and turn the water light brown.
About a day. The water then has the anti bacterial healing quallites of the leaf.

This product makes your water look nasty. That's the point. It feels like natural pond water and the bettas love it. To be honest, my bettas would not have bred with out this. It has almond leaf extract which puts fish in that breeding mood. It makes there color come out and there moods go way up. Great product.
