About the Author

DOUG JOHNSON is a multi-talented media creator and editor with a passion for telling stories through moving visuals, dynamic sound and the power of the written word. As a freelance audio-visual designer in New York City, his skill and creativity have been showcased in works for television, documentary and film.

"Doug was honored in 2010 with a First Place win at the industry-powerhouse "Fade In Awards" for his short screenplay, "The Bassinet," and his second short, "Odessa," is currently in production with Ethos Pictures."

He has also written three feature-length screenplays. "Debt to Society" with co-writer Brian Murphy, and "The Holstein Epiphany" and "From Hell I Came" with co-writer Dennis Smithers, Jr.

Doug writes primarily in the crime and suspense genres, with liberal doses of horror, black comedy and the inherent drama of the human condition. He cites as major influences the strange, violent and darkly humorous southern gothic traditions of authors Flannery O'Connor, Edgar Allan Poe and Harry Crews.

I received a complimentary copy of this book to review.

Excellent! Page turner! Scarey! Could not put the book down, even though I was burning dinner.

Two family dogs get whacked out on dope from drinking water on(previous)meth lab property.

"Ocean Snow" is a tightly woven and fast-paced story that's tough to put down. The tone and atmosphere is established from page one in a very eloquent and gradually intensifying manner that truly pulls you into the plot. The characters were interesting and engaging throughout. Typically, this is not my type of genre but I was curious and was most certainly not let down. The quality of the writing, the concept and its execution and the tightness of this book overall made it highly enjoyable. No words were wasted - they all served to move the story forward, while at the same time providing a nice, stylistic flavor. I will be curious to see what other works will come from the author(s).

Fast paced story, a bit unbelievable in places, but if you are after a bit of mindless light reading, this is just the book to escape into.

"The light from a flashlight beam hit his dull eyes, and they glowed a blood red as deep and terrifying as those of the Devil himself." Book became a gore fest at the 40% mark and have to say it does compare well with Stephen King's "Cujo". Book has an exciting intro, pulse-pounding storyline, and well-developed characters (even the mastiffs) which made for a very good read! Only drawbacks being foul language and need for better editing (phrases like "dollar-store foil pains" and "It sagged a quite a bit" need revision). Will leave you with a final passage and a hearty recommendation to give it a read, "He felt like he'd just fallen into the lion paddock at the zoo wearing a sirloin suit." Nice...

Hard to read - impossible to put down. Sloppiness of police is unexplainable. Cops would normally guarantee an obvious drug manufacturing location.

This is not my normal genre but while searching on my kindle read the synopsis and thought I would give it a shot. I am glad I did! The characters are so well developed, I found myself biting nails when the action started happening. Without giving any of the book away, I found myself deeply invested in what was happening to the kid's. Pick this book up you won't regret it!

Doug Johnson's novelization of J.D. Simone's screenplay crackles with gritty intensity from the start all the way to the grizzly yet satisfying finish.
