From Library Journal
Stead was never an immensely popular writer, but her fiction was critically well-received, and novels such as The Man Who Loved Children brought her wide recognition. Geering has collected some 35 short pieces not previously published in book form. Many of these works originally appeared in periodicals, but others were found after the author's death and are unrevised. These will interest students of her work rather than general readers. Other stories have wider appeal, and the arrangementby topic, rather than strictly chronologicalmakes this collection more generally readable than most compilations of works written over a long period of time. Still, Ocean of Story is best suited to academic collections where there is likely to be interest in Stead's minor writings. Mary K. Prokop, CEL Regional Lib., Savannah, Ga.
