5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
This book is well written and, while it contains considerable maths, results in useful formulae which are arrived at with rigorous derivation. Very useful for engineers and scientists in the field. You can skip the heavy maths if necessary and go for the useful conclusions. We need more attention to this great energy source and Prof Valnes delivers.

1.0 out of 5 stars So impractical
This is a stunning book. I was stunned that the author managed to get from cover to cover without any practical phenomenological discussion of waves, oscillating bodies or any of the other topics that are modelled in such detail.
I have no doubt the author has an infinite knowledge of wave and related power conversion phenomina - just wish he'd followed Steve...

This review is from: Ocean Waves and Oscillating Systems: Linear Interactions Including Wave-Energy Extraction (Hardcover)
This is a stunning book. I was stunned that the author managed to get from cover to cover without any practical phenomenological discussion of waves, oscillating bodies or any of the other topics that are modelled in such detail.
I have no doubt the author has an infinite knowledge of wave and related power conversion phenomina - just wish he'd followed Steve Hawking's lead in The Brief History Of Time and avoided the temptation to resort to abstract mathematical concepts.

If you want to get on and actually do something - read something else and tell your competitors you read this book, they'll likely follow your lead.
