4.0 out of 5 stars Different than Previous Dewey Stores but it Works!

3.0 out of 5 stars Liked the mystery even tho I'm not a quilter
This was a super, super fast read. The characters were believable and the mystery was solid. I even liked some of the "airy fairy" advice in approaching quilt design. I don't make quilts, but I can carry some of the advice over to my knitting, book making and journaling.

I could live without the "let's get it on" segment but, all-in-all a decent read. I'd...

Ocean Waves has a different feel than the two previous Dewey Pellicano books but it works. Dewey takes herself out of her element to attend a week-long quilting camp up the coast and once again stumbles upon murder.

Dewey feels out of her element away from her shop, friends and home and the new setting instills a similar feel in the reader. She is plagued with doubts about her abilities and on several occasions regrets leaving her comfort zone. Her unease is actually what allows her the growth and self-awareness she gains in this story.

This is not a good starting book for someone just picking up the series but I think taken in the frame the first two books created this third outing represent growth for the author and the main character. I would definitely recommend a reader start with Old Maid's Puzzle and move on to Wild Goose Chase before reading Ocean Waves so this book can be taken in the context it deserves.

It is a quick read and one that I enjoyed. I think Terri Thayer has created a good, honest character and a solid series.

I am a sucker for quilting stories. I have read her first two books. Even met the author at a quilt show. Enjoyed the story and looking forward to more.

I found this book to be an excellent portrayal of what quilting is all about! Dewey is a hoot, and I love to hate her sister-in-law, Kimmy. I am anxiously awaiting the next in the series. I also learned about real places (the Park) that I had never heard of before.

I finished reading Ocean Waves last night and enjoyed it as much as the other two. This is another enjoyable addition to Ms. Thayer's quilting mysteries, starring Dewey Pellicano. Our heroine seems to have a knack for finding the bodies, this time along the serene and gorgeous paths of Asilomar-By-The-Sea. I have spent a week at Asilomar, not at a quilting retreat, unfortunately, but at another training I took. There really are no phones or televisions in the rooms, and the only internet access in the sleeping areas is in the living room in each building! I was as enchanted with the chapel and Merrill Hall as Dewey was. I even had a room in Pirate's Den, and I recall some excellent meals in the Crocker Dining Hall. Fortunately, there were no murders or mountain lion attacks during my stay! Although I detected a slight discrepancy in the timeline, it was an entertaining read, feeding both my love of mysteries and my addiction to quilting!

I could live without the "let's get it on" segment but, all-in-all a decent read. I'd read this author's books again but wouldn't go out of my way to search out when her next book is released.

3.0 out of 5 stars You have to be patient, August 22, 2009

This review is from: Ocean Waves (A Quilting Mystery) (Paperback)
I like a good mystery and there was one. But for two-thirds of the book, I could care less. The book went on boring (to Me) tangents. I picked it because I also like quilting and the story takes place in a quilt camp. However, the author puts in material that makes the reader bored. I did continue reading and my interest picked up. I do not think I will read anymore books by this author
