Book Description

October 1993
The second in this series of CD-ROM based books on marine life, covers the little documented reefs and waters of Micronesia (stretching from Kosrae, west of Hawaii, for over three thousand miles to Palau (southwest of Guam). Created with the assistance of Robert Myers, author of the definitive printed guide to marine life of the region, this double-CD set includes original narrated underwater video and photography. The two CD-set contains video of over 150 species. The CD-ROM also contains video of heretofore undocumented fish behavior on subjects like mating, predation, camouflage, brooding, and nesting. Learn more about Micronesia by exploring the topographical, relief, and political maps of the region.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A marvelous...undersea adventure. Especially well done. Best CDs of 1994. -- PC World, 12/94

Award of Excellence. -- Technology and Learning Magazine, 5/94

This is almost too beautiful to be called educational, and the whole family will enjoy the vivid pictures of the underwater world. -- Electronic Games, 12/94

From the Publisher

This region was selected for the second volume as it is one of the planets marine regions undergoing significant exploitation for aquaculture and marine related tourism. We decided to produce a two CD set, while maintaining a single CD product price in order to provide readers with a complete introduction to the region. While not as rich as the marine region in the Indonesia/Philippines/New Guinea triangle, Micronesia is nevertheless a region of great marine biodiversity. Some areas such as Palau, Guam, and Truk (Chuuk) are so overexploited today, especially by the scuba diving and commercial fishing industries that entire marine populations have been decimated. A second edition is underway that will include expanded land photography, and with a primary editorial scope that focuses on families of fishes rather than on species.
