SUPERB OVERVIEW OF OCEANIC ART,
By Peter M. Richter (Zuerich, ZH Schweiz) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oceanic Art (Hardcover)
The book gives an excellent overview of the art in the Oceanic region with special emphasis on New Guinea. The contributions are organised geographically and then by tribes. The book not only depicts extraordinary and seldom documented works of art from museums and private collections but also provides valuable information on the ethnological and social context of the works displayed. Photographs and layout are outstanding and the printing is of the highest quality. It is a must for all those interested in the art of the region or in tribal art in general.

Oceanic Art,

This review is from: Oceanic Art (Hardcover)
This is the authorative book on Oceanic Art. This book is for the serious student/art historian. It is about as complete as a book can be about this subject. Some of the material is a bit dated, like all books dealing with history. The images are great with good detail. This is used as a textbook for classes dealing with oceanic art. It is very enjoyable to read. I would also recommend this book for the nonstudent interested in the art of the pacific.
