We did not purchase our BC29 from this source, but wanted to review the product. We've had the BC29 for almost a year now, and it has been a pleasure to own and operate. We use it as a nano reef tank with live rock, corals, and a few fish/shrimp. It comes with almost everything you need to get started - tank, hood, lights, filter chambers and filters, return pump, and other little goodies. You will still need a heater and may want to do some modifying of the filters and chambers depending on your use. It's size is just right to make cleaning a snap, yet still provide sufficient room for all the goodies you may need.

We modified the back chambers by making the first overflow wider and removing its false bottom. This allows more flow and permits the addition of a protein skimmer or heater. We have a heater in chamber 1, live rock and cheato in chamber 2, and the return pump in chamber 3. We did upgrade the return pump for more flow, but one could live with the included pump with no problems.

We currently have the default hood and lights. While I do want to upgrade, so I can have more variety in the tank, it is very costly to do so. For now, the provided hood does the trick for our current stock list.

Oceanic developed a fine product, and we highly recommend it for freshwater or saltwater.

Just tonight, my little clownfish jumped into the rear pump area. I rescued him, but it looks like his little back is broken. How could Oceanic design such a tank that leaves room for the animals to jump over the separater? It's not right. Please, buy a normal tank until they get this problem fixed.

1.0 out of 5 stars very disappointing, October 30, 2010

Purchased the 29 gal biocube in June, 2010. Started out fine, looked great, arrived complete and seemed to be fine so I started the cycling of my intended reef tank. Within 2 weeks, the lights started going off when I closed the door located in the back of hood. So I received a call from Oceanic,( after they ignored my emails and phone messages,) they did call right away when I complained directly to amazon and petsolutions, who are the companys that sold me the tank, they where both on it, kudos to them.
The lady I spoke to suggestioned I take the hood apart and fix the short in the lights myself, I laughed in her face and said no, she then sent me a replacement hood and a return box to send back the original hood, well the new hood is more screwed up the the original hood, lights and fans do not work properly and the large, plastic secure screws used for securing the plug ins for lights are on up side down!
The company has major quality control issues and I strongly advise anyone not to purchase this product until these issues are resolved.
By the way, the company never once followed up to see if things where resolved with the new hood!!

Just as another reviewer stated, the design of this aquarium is not safe for fish. The tank is so poorly designed that fish are able to end up "overboard" (literally over the side of the aquarium, into the filtration system). I have two clown fish and in the two years I've owned this aquarium, both clown fish have ended up in the filtration system more times than I can count. Thankfully, they've been fortunate enough to survive all of these experiences. After frustrating and pointless complaints to Oceanic, I decided to take matters into my own hands, and rigged up my own safety feature to ensure my fish actually stay in the aquarium. This involved cutting up a large plastic water bottle and creating a make-shift barrier. With this barrier, my fish are finally safe, however, the filtration system does not receive optimal water flow because of the new obstruction. I've been researching new aquariums and am finally making a leap to bluer seas (knock wood)! Please steer away from this faulty aquarium--for the sake of your fish.

We purchased this as a gift for our daughter for Christmas. This was set up as a Marine tank and it is wonderful. This tank was quick and easy to set up. The only items we needed to add (besides the salt water and fish)were a heater and thermometer. The tank come with everything else built in to it. We had it up and running in less than an hour!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good tank for curious fish or jumpers, August 25, 2011

Though we've had our Biocube 29 for about a year and have enjoyed it, there are some serious design flaws. The pump has no speed adjustment and it's very difficult to keep the pump covered with water without having the water level nearly high enough to flow over the separator wall. We've also had the same problem as Jess; our fish like to jump over the wall and get caught in the pump or filter rooms. Some make it and some don't. If you buy this tank I highly recommend inTank's Fish Saver Guard (mediabaskets.com).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Saltwater Aquarium!, September 1, 2010

This is a great aquarium for beginners, and experts. I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about purchasing it. The only thing that was bad was when it came one of the lights was out of place, and a screw was not in a hole it was just rolling around in the hood. Those things were a simple fix it tells you what to do if a light bulb is out of place in the instruction manual. Took me about 15-30 minutes to set up. I would also reccomend to buy the biocube protein skimmer that only fits sizes 14 and 29 gallon biocubes it removes the harmful organics in the water. Right now I have 2 Occelaris Clown Fish, and 1 algea Blenny, Live Rock, Live Sand, Saltwater.etc. goodluck!
