"I prefer the Garrison text in most cases over the textbook I am currently using. I find the Garrison text to be equivalent )to) or better than other textbooks I have reviewed...I found the writing style to be very readable and engaging. This textbook does not always read like a textbook....What I really like are the sample questions from students and the critical thinking questions provided at the end of each chapter. Named Outstanding Marine Educator by the National Marine Technology Society, Tom Garrison writes market-leading textbooks that enliven students' interest in the ocean, as well as a regular column on ocean education for the journal OCEANOGRAPHY. His knowledge, combined with a gift for engaging writing, has garnered Tom an Emmy Award for his work on the OCEANUS television course and a prestigious Excellence in College Teaching Award from the Salgo-Noren Foundation. Garrison also served as a writer and science advisor for THE ENDLESS VOYAGE for PBS. Tom's books, born out of his desire to share his excitement about the ocean with others, are widely used at colleges and universities throughout North America, Asia, and Australia. This textbook is very well written. It is ubnderstandible to students and others of all ages and interests. It contains intersting color pictures and graphics about the subject material for each chapter. Each chapter also contains web links to a homepage that accompanies the book. The book is full of intersting personal stories, history, theory, and facts. Dr. Garrison and all who have contributed to this book have set the standard for textbooks and integrated learning for the next decade.

I bought this book for my Oceanography class and compared to other Oceanography texts I've come across, this book is definitely more concise and better organized.

This book is very well laid out. I am a teacher and would absolutely recommend this as an intro textbook to marine science. It contains all that you would need to know. great as a first year colledge text or even an advanced high school textbook.
