Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This is a well-illustrated guide to historical, physical, biological, chemical, geological, and meteorological aspects of the oceans. Groves, a scientist affiliated with the National Academy of Sciences and the National Research Council, has presented the information in a question-and-answer format that is ideal for quick, easy reading and useful for the intended general audience. The included glossary with short definitions is also helpful. Groves's descriptions and answers are technically stronger in the areas of physics and chemistry and weaker in biology. He has accomplished the difficult task of generalizing very technical information without introducing inaccuracies. This book is highly recommended for lay readers.
