Book Description

4 and upP and up
Children gaze into the underwater world with their 3-D glasses, and watch as Destiny Dragon swims through her ocean of emotions discovering gems of wisdom from sea creatures along the way. The story and characters have character, charm and are empowering, positive and responsible. The Oceans of Emotions is also great entertainment. Kids love Destiny Dragon and the underwater friends she encounters. Children learn to explore their emotions with a new understanding and acceptance that helps raise their emotional intelligence quotient. The story holds even the most antsy children captive all the way through with its amazing 3-D illustrations. The message in this book helps children take responsibility for how they feel, how they act, and who they are to become in life. Children learn that each emotion has a purpose and by embracing their feelings they allow life to flow through them. The Oceans of Emotions is viewable with or without the 3-D glasses tha! nks to a new technology.

NOTE, In book one of the Dragon Series, "Adventures In Dreamtime", many reviewers were tricked by John's unique ability to make his artwork look realistic. We choose to reiterate that John did create this stunning art with sketches, paintbrush and help from several computer programs he has mastered over the past 6 years. The artwork is ORIGINAL and CREATED COMPLETELY BY HAND. No photos used. You have to see it to believe it!

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 3-A formulaic look into human emotions. Destiny the dragon is on her way home when her ship capsizes, sending her into the Oceans of Emotions. Here, creatures with names such as Calamity and Griefy Grouper give her advice on finding her way home. Along the way, the dragon grapples with confusion, fear, sadness, anger, and pain; these feelings are each accompanied by a mini-lesson on emotion. For example, Pufferfish explains to the dragon that, "Whenever you feel pain or hurt it means you are learning an important lesson." When she is frightened, Minnow tells her that, "Fear is faith returning...Face and embrace your fears...And you will be filled with faith and confidence in life." These messages, while positive, will be confusing for young readers. Yet Destiny easily absorbs each lesson and is consequently reunited with her family. The green and fuchsia dragon, a cartoon rendering superimposed onto computer-generated ocean backdrops, stands out in the illustrations. Three-D glasses enhance the illusion of swimming fish and rolling waters and are the only attraction in this poorly written book.

Review

"The Oceans of Emotions," written and illustrated by husband and wife team Nicole and John Clark, is a treat to the eye.

Not only are the illustrations beautifully done in deep ocean colors, they come to life when the reader dons a pair of 3D glasses that are tucked into a pocket at the back of the book. It makes you feel like you're right there in the ocean with the fish and other sea creatures. It's fascinating!

Not only that, the story is timeless, embracing the emotions that we all feel and share. -- Charlene Koepp, Editor Char's Chatterbox

This review is from: The Oceans of Emotions (Hardcover)
This is an incredible picture book with vibrant illustrations and a story that teaches children effective ways of dealing with emotions such as anger, fear, and grief. The book comes with an amazing pair of 3D glasses that could be called 3D goggles. Put these glasses on and hold your breath as you look at the incredible life like underwater coral and sea creatures. This is a one of Picture Book recomended for adults and children alike. A++++

Dear Nicole & John, Thank you so much for your book. As the counselor at St. Mary's I stress the importance of naming your feelings, knowing they are all O.K. and then deciding what to do with them. Your book is an added 'tool' for me. Our librarian will be reading your books to the children in grades K-3. Thank you for remembering Littleton at a very sad time."

This review is from: The Oceans of Emotions (Hardcover)
Dear John & Nicole Clark, Thank you. We have been feeling much like the 'Little Dragon' these past weeks. Just as all the ocean creatures helped 'Destiny Dragon' to work through her feelings, they have helped us to do the same. We have shared this book with each other as well as other Teachers and students in our school. Your book has helped us begin to heal."
