4.0 out of 5 stars David Holmes Is Cooler Than I Am, December 18, 2004
By

This review is from: Ocean's 12 (Audio CD)
In the past, I prided myself on my collection of hip, smooth, alternative and underground music choices. Apparently, I was delusional. Holmes' selection makes, I repeat, makes Ocean's Twelve the enjoyable viewing experience it is. Watch the movie, and then, if you can listen to it. Or just get the soundtrack. My personal favs are "Crepuscolo Sul Mare" (love the guitar on that one), "7/29/04 The Day Of" (bongos, horns, and wah-wahs? Yeesh!), and virtually everything else. One track, "The A La Menthe" by Nikkfurie, of the group La Caution, is missing. This is the infamous "Laser Grid" song from what I can tell. If Warner Music Group can get a second volume out, or a bonus disc, that would be great. I believe great music should be bought (or great musicians starve), so please help "The A La Menthe" become more available. Or more people would have to pull a "Danny Ocean".

4.0 out of 5 stars The Nightfox "Laser Dance" Song (more information), January 16, 2007
By
This review is from: Ocean's 12 (Audio CD)
The song that plays when the Nightfox is breaking into the museum is called "The À La Menthe". To be specific, the version played in the movie is "The À La Menthe (The Lazer Dance Version)" as the original version has rap lyrics provided by the talented brothers Hi-Tekk and Nikkfurie of the band La Caution.

It's true that there is a two minute sample available from the website of their production company (called Kourtrajme). This is not the full, six-minute version of the song though. You may be disappointed. It's here at the bottom of the page: http://www.kourtrajme.com/accueil.htm

The album on which both versions of the song appear is available here on Amazon. It's called "Arc En Ciel Pour Dal Toniens".

The soundtrack, by the way, is fantastic but lacking as far as this song is concerned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Here's the FULL song!!!, January 27, 2006
This review is from: Ocean's 12 (Audio CD)
I did some massive searching for "The a La Menthe" song, and finally found it. The artist (Nikkfurie) only has a 2 minute clip on the website perviously listed. I found this website, which has the full clip for download. Now...the page is completely in Russian text, but you will find a link that looks like this: [mp3] next to a few other choices. Right click, save as, and POOF. You have a 6.18MB mp3 file with the full song! Actual song is 4m30s long. Well, enough of me talking, here it is:

4.0 out of 5 stars "another BMI Film Music Award Winner ~ David Holmes", December 30, 2004
This review is from: Ocean's 12 (Audio CD)
Warner Music presents the follow up to the award winning "Ocean's Eleven" which won the BMI Film Music Award and a nomination from OFCS for Best Original Score...this time we have a more suave and subtle sequel in "Ocean's Twelve", once again the pen of Dublin born David Holmes brings to the big screen his intricate talents of film scoring...showcasing vintage with a harder edge mixed with distinctive versatility.

Opening track "L'APPUNTAMENTO", performed by Ornella Vanoni is as smooth as silk, can't get any better than this Italian hit from the early '70s....Holmes goes international from Italy to France with themes from the '60s and '70s that work perfectly...other highlights are "$165 MILLION + INTEREST(INTRO) with the Round Up.."LIFTING THE BUILDING", very close to Henry Mancini cues from various films and that's not bad company to be in..."10:35 I TURN OFF CAMERA 3", mixed with a beat from the '60s and a groove to match..."CRESPUSCOLO SUL MARE", performed by Piero Umiliani is simply haunting with mesmerzing effects..."WHAT R WE STEALING", this time Holmes pulls out all the stops with his down and dirty theme..."LAZY", the album version is a mirror duplicate of the vibes from Mancini's "Charade", but it fits..."YEN ON A CAROUSEL", takes the groove a bit deeper..."ASCENSION TO VIRGINITY", classic Dave Grusin with an inclusive chorus and a hip non stop beat...now we have the "UNTITLED HIDDEN TRACK", with percussion abounding from a school band practice...nice touch!

Total Time: 55:17 on 16 Tracks ~ Warner Bros 48945 ~ (12/07/2004)

This soundtrack is awesome...It's too bad about the great missing tracks, though. I found "the a la menthe" on one of La Caution's websites. Go to this link and scroll down until you see the Ocean's 12 cover. Click on Telecharger la morceau en MP3. http://www.kourtrajme.com/actu_contenu.htm

4.0 out of 5 stars Inagaddadavida Cover, April 28, 2006
By
Music Lover (Laguna Beach, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ocean's 12 (Audio CD)
I would like to thank those that tracked down "The a la Menthe" and pointed the rest of us to the web site. Several have asked about the music during the scene where they switch the egg that starts off with bongos and rolls into a cover of Inagaddadavida. It's called Rito a Los Angeles by Giuseppe De Luca on an album called Barry 7's Connectors 2. You can find it on itunes under the artist's name.
