I just saw a video of the author of this book performing his duties as a police officer with respect and honor. It is a video called "Oceanside open carry" He is my hero for the day they way he respectfully and calmly dealt with a person carrying a gun and a video camera.

Also saw the Oceanside open carry video - wow, what a professional!

First, let me say that I was a member of the OPD from 1966 to 1979; as such I did not have the privilege of knowing the author during my tenure. When I learned of the book, I ordered it immediately and read it through from front to back. I applaud Matthew Lyons for making the effort to research and collect the historically significant information contained in the book, it is an important story that needs to be documented and made available to others. Matthew tells his story mostly through the use of historical photographs with text descriptions, as a result there are important stories that likely just could not be included, and half or more of the pages are devoted to people, places and occurrences prior to 1960, an interesting period of rapid changes in the city and the police department. I would encourage the author to explore additional sources of historical information and consider a sequel portraying in more detail the more 'modern era' OPD. Anyone interested in historical information about early southern California law enforcement, and a police department facing substantial challenges will like this book.

You are a shining star at Oceanside PD. Your composure during, and handling, of "Jeremy" was second to none and should be used for LEO training classes. Thank you for your professionalism.

Just saw Officer Lyons' on the YouTube video. A true gentlemen, and a true professional. Matthew Lyons makes me proud to be an American in a time where that doesnt come easy.

I would like to add my voice to those praising officer Lyons. From the youtube video: "[...]" he seems to be an intelligent and informed. I hope other police departments look to the Oceanside Police Department for an example on how their officers should conduct themselves.

Officer Lyons is good, so I'm sure this book is probably good too.

This is a great book, even aside from the fact that it is written by a guy who became famous for doing his job professionally and politely. I do think that members of the second amendment community should purchase it as a thank you to Officer Lyons, but you'll be getting a great product.

Very well done piece of work on the Oceanside Police. A pictorial record of the earliest days of mustachioed constables up to today's police officers. Placing a very real, human face on the police who serve this city.
