3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap Copy at Booked Out in Randwick, Sydney
I saw a copy for $A33 at Booked Out in Randwick, Sydney today. Wakefield Press are a publisher of good books on Australian subjects. This should be equal to that.

This review is from: Ochre and Rust (Hardcover)
A memorable piece of scholarship. Jones has done a Sherlock on selected items from the South Australian Museum's trove of indigenous artefacts which makes for adventurous reading. The writing is the class of Inga Clendinnen(Dancing with Strangers) and Greg Denning(Mr Bligh's Bad Language) with the same attention to enthralling detail within a broad treatment of social context of the periods under review. He is able to take you to the heart of the hybridity that occurs in the production of these artefacts and explain the pressures that gave expression to their particular manufacture in a way I have not experienced in any Australian literature about the frontier, wherever it was on this vast dry Southland. If you need encouragement to visit the Museum's superb presentation of indigenous material culture, unrivalled in Australia, this is it. For more on indigenous Australia visit>rodmoss.com
