5.0 out of 5 stars Miracle Eye Drops
About two years ago my vet diagnosed my Bichon Frise with the onset of cataracts. At that time she was 11. He suggested trying OcluVet drops in lieu of the $2500+ per eye cataract surgery since the cost of surgery was prohibitive for my family. She has been on the drops for about two years and has almost 100% of her eyesight back. These eye drops are miracle drops! My vet...

I was hoping to avoid cataract surgery for my dog and bought these eye drops. These drops didn't make his eyes worse but not any better either. They may have provided a little lubrication for his eyes but his cataracts are still advancing because he is almost 13 years old. I know that we all hope that these eye drops which costs about $100 would take the place of eye surgery which runs into the thousands but you might have better results than me. I have used the drops for over 3 weeks. The bottle when shaken drips on its top and is a little messy and you waste valuable liquid. They need to design a better bottle.

My vet also has charted the eye progress by looking at the back of her lenses every time she has had a check-up. The cataracts will always be there; however they have diminished to about the size of a pen point. I saw positive changes in her eyesight within a few weeks of use. Now she only needs a drop in each eye every other day. My only concern is the cost that averages about $35 per month. I wish the drops would be affordable so that all dogs could have their sight restored.

I happen to have a breed of dog that seems to be prone to cataracts. A homiopathic Vet. had recommmended this treatment. It absolutely works. My dog's eyes cleared up in weeks not months without the need for surgery. I administer the medication now just periodically as needed. I am grateful to the company that developed this medication. It does work. I recommend it highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars An alternative to surgery, September 15, 2010

We have a 13 year old lab who had developed serious vision problems. She wouldn't even play with the other dogs in the woods on our hikes anymore as she stayed very close so that she could keep sight of her owners. After about a month of using ocluvet, her sight was improved to a degree that she was again able to run in the woods with the other dogs without the fear of losing sight of the pack. It really did change her life.

If she was younger we would probably go ahead and get the surgery. But she is nearing the end of her life and we don't want to do invasive surgery at her advanced age. Ocluvet gave her that little bit boost she needed to end her time in relative comfort, and we are thankful for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked for Two Dogs..., August 21, 2011

The first indication that my 10-year-old dog had problems with his eye was a case of bloodshot that would not clear up. A visit to the vet ophthalmologist revealed that he had a detached retina in fairly advanced stages. The doctor also confirmed that the cloudiness I also suspected was developing in both eyes was the early stages of cataracts. She cautioned that my dog's eye problems could lead to the development of glaucoma which could eventually progress to a point where my dog would need to have his eye removed! Since surgery was not an option, she prescribed some prednisolone eye drops for use in the long term for prevention of glaucoma.

However, after researching online revealed to me that in some cases, long-term use of such steroidal eye drops could actually cause glaucoma, I set out in search of an alternative and found OcluVet. I've been administering one drop in each eye twice a day since September 2010. I have also been giving my dog oral vitamins aimed specifically at supporting ocular health. After about a month using both products, I noticed the cloudiness in his eyes clearing up. Indeed when my dog went in for a check-up with his veterinarian this May, the doctor readily noticed the improvement in my dog's eyes and enthusiastically urged me to continue what I am using.

Having this confirmation from the vet that these drops at least seemed to help clear up his cataracts, I gave a bottle to my sister for her birthday so that she could try it on her dog who had just been diagnosed with early stages of cataracts. Within a couple of months, my sister's dog's eyes cleared up just using the OcluVet drops!

These drops may not work for every dog, but in both my own and my sister's dogs' cases where these drops were administered consistently and right at the onset of the developing cataracts, it seems to have worked to totally clear the cataracts!

The only cons about this product is that, like others here have already noted, the bottle dispenses much too liberally--in fact the product very easily leaks out of the tip--you don't even have to squeeze the bottle to get a drop. The first bottle I got also leaked when closed so you have to constantly make sure it is kept upright when stored. The leakage can be an incredible annoyance particularly since one bottle costs so much money which is another thing some may consider a "con." However, one bottle seems to have lasted us about 4 months and I, for one, am glad to have found a more natural, much cheaper, less invasive and less stressful alternative for my dog than cataract surgery! My dog, on the other hand, abhors getting his drops and I admit to being unmotivated sometimes to do it 2 times a day--but really, the results are worth it so that my boy can keep what's left of his eyesight and continue doing what he enjoys like going hiking and chasing lizards!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ocluvet Eye Drops, July 5, 2011

An excellent product for intended purpose. Does help with eye clarity in dogs with cataracts. The price is about half of what the local vet. office charges for the same product. Had used this product for several years from the local market but the price increase induced me to go to the inter-net.

My dog has cataracts. I stuck to the treatment program but OcluVet didn't help my dog's eye site at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works, but.... FOR SHAME on OculVet., February 21, 2011

This review is from: OcluVet Eye Drops, 15mL (Misc.)
I bought this for my 9 year old female Pekingese, not so much for cataracts, but to relieve redness (we live in the desert and on top of that she has mild allergies and a small, pin sized, benign bump on the inside of her eyelid that cannot be removed easily by my vet.)

I tried various eyedrops for humans, but the relief was only temporary. These drops work however! Her eye is clear now and normal. Even the size of the bump on her inner eyelid has shrank. No redness period!!!

The instructions say to give 3 drops in each eye 3x per day, but 1 drop 3x per day is sufficient -- as I found if I put in more, the liquid would just drip down her face... So if you have a small dog, you won't need to use as much. In this way 1 bottle will last about 3 months.

Oh, and I'm on my second bottle... I wouldn't spend $100 on ANY product unless it really worked. I have no complaints and I plan on buying this for a very long time to protect her eyes. If you can afford it, do it.

As another reviewer said, the bottle is NOT well designed, so be careful or you will waste it. Also, shake it gently with the cap on VERY TIGHT, as if you don't, the nozzle will leak.

EDIT and UPDATE 6/25/2011

As I said, these are good eyedrops. I switched to CAN-C drops for a month. Not impressed. I'm going back to OcluVet Eye Drops -- I just wish OcluVet wasn't so damned expensive. The chemical formulation is superb. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything better than OcluVet Eye Drops. I think the high price (justified by exclusivity??) reflects negatively on OcluVet and its management. $100 for (approximately) 1 months of eye drops consisting of concentrated antioxidants (approximate cost .30-.50 cents) seems like extortion. Regardless, if you have a pet with an eye condition, I still recommend it. But SHAME on the manufacturer for charging so much.

Get your act together OcluVet. If you don't reduce your price soon a competitor will come along and create a superior, cheaper formulation. Treat pet owners with compassion and respect: lower the price of this prodcut.

SEPTEMBER 2011 UPDATE:

The seller has increased the price... AGAIN. These drops used to be $80. Now they are $100+

ABSURD. My personal opinion is that the seller is taking advantage of pet owners. There is NO reason why these drops should cost $100, based on the formulation (which consists of less than $5.00 worth of ingredients + distiller water.)

FOR SHAME on OculVet. Blatant opportunists.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad bottle design, isn't working, December 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: OcluVet Eye Drops, 15mL (Misc.)
First off, it's as if the makers designed this bottle to waste as many drops as possible. With the price
they're charging, that's a major problem. Every time I shake it (with the top on) drops STILL come out the top and dribble down the bottle. I wonder how much $ I just wasted. When I try to put the drops in my dogs eyes, more drops come out and dribble down the bottle or squirt on to their faces. No, I'm not squeezing hard or anything, I'm just holding the bottle upside down. I was using Petvision, which has a good bottle that measure out a drop at a time. My dog was starting to see things (she had gone completely blind). We were both excited! Thinking Ocluvet must be better because it had studies backing it, and was more expensive, I switched. In just three days she's back to bumping into everything and walking around with that dazed look. Not a good trade for either of us.
