this is some really good stuff. I found this band by searching on google. I typed in "like at the drive-in" in the search box and the mint chicks came up as one of the links. On some points they do sound like at the drive-in, particularly on the presentation of the guitar and the overall energy that the music provides. I didn't give it a perfect score because the quality of the songs, musically, range from brilliantly orgasmic to so-so. Still one of my favorite purchases. If you love atdi, like me, then get this.

4.0 out of 5 stars great band, November 20, 2003
This review is from: Octagon Octagon Octagon (Audio CD)
A couple of weeks ago I catched this guys live @ the Dux in CHC suporting Whirlwind Heat. They delivered a great energetic show with some really fantastic tunes. Their song 'licking letters' now got some airplay in NZ tv and I guess it's a pretty good one. Luckily I spend the $10 for the limited 7'' single 'blue team go' at the Dux. This band got potential to be big one day. stay sharp suckaz

4.0 out of 5 stars the who?, November 14, 2003
This review is from: Octagon Octagon Octagon (Audio CD)
In the wake of ever expanding genres, music could hardly be classified anymore. New Zealand band, The Mint Chicks have produced their first ep, six tracks of which hail from punk, rock and experimental stucture, comparable to at the drive-in/blood brothers/refused, but by no means similar. They display an interesting vocabulary of chords and notes which ravel in the depths of undiotonic noise served up with a nice helping of go-go drumming, absolutely wicked!. The mint chicks are defineatly on to something new, its about time a band like this did something about rocks carbon-copy history within new zealand, the albums worth buying just because it comes from here. Messy riffs are held nicely by train-like bass lines and synonamous vocals. "Licking Letters" is probably one of the best songs on the album, with a structure slightly reminicent of, At the Drive-ins one armed scissor. Influences like this are clearly apparent on such tracks as "octagon, octagon, octagon" which i cant help but say BLOOD BROTHERS. The Son, the third track on the album is a progressive analogy of the shape of punk to come (and i dont mean the refused song). Aside from the bitching i absolutely love this EP it is full of wicked, wicked noise and recommend it to anyone that wants to let go of the consevative cliches that we hear every day when we turn on the radio.... Wicked Mate
