I agree with the first reviewer. It was a really good book. I don't usually read science fiction but the colors on the cover really caught my eye. I liked all the characters and it wasn't hard to understand the science fiction part. The second half was even better than the first. I couldn't put it down during the last 50 pages. I could totally see this being turned into a movie. Luke Wilson would make a great Mike Chessel, and Holland Taylor from Two and a Half Men should play Mrs. Spinderbaum. I thought it was good because it had a little bit of everything.

If you have ever wanted to get away from it all, how about a trip to Antiearth? The Octave Displacement is a really clever, exciting sci-fi novel about a genius composer named Mike Chessel who discovers the "Cosmic Notes" - a set of musical notes that can open up a passage to Antiearth, Earth's cosmic twin. But these notes can also unleash a destructive force, as evidenced by the cataclysmic event that occurred in Tunguska, Siberia, in 1908.
Strange things happen in The Octave Displacement. Selena, Mike's love interest, ages 15 years when she is transported to Antiearth. This can put a strain on their relationship. Also, what made a tree suddenly uproot itself? Why did children start to levitate in a classroom? What made Mike's living room furniture suddenly become alive? And what about that purple spider cavorting in Mike's apartment? it is definitely not of this world!
Things are never dull in The Octave Displacement. Aliens from thousands of years into the future are determined to travel back in time to wrest the secret notes from him - at any cost. Mike finds out that the aliens are after his saliva, which would be used in some futuristic data retrieval process to gain the secret. Then there is the mysterious visit of Gordon, an agent from CIAO, the Correctional Investigative Allies Organization. CIAO is not in the telephone book, but he'll tell you, "We are in the business of saying goodbye to crime."
The Octave Displacement has some very funny moments, too. Picture an alien in the form of an old lady, chasing Mike all over an amusement park, determined to get his saliva. Nothing stops her, even after she gets hit by a roller coaster.
This is a thoroughly enjoyable novel. It has action, mystery, suspense, romance...but most of all, it was fun to read. Five stars, definitely!
