A pleasant surprise,
By E. Jean Alston "I only review items I would s... (Richardson, tx United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: October Echoes, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
This book sounded interesting, but so far-fetched that I figured I'd have to check my brains at the door. Imagine my surprise when I found myself buying into the story.
Neither Sara or Nora were innocents, and found themselves sexually attracted to each other. So, yes they did have casual sex - pretty hot casual sex. But that still didn't mean they trusted each other. And it certainly doesn't mean they fall in love...did it? I've met the author and based on my knowledge of her military experiences, I am sure the military aspects were very accurate. As for the Irish Terrorist underworld and the workings of the FBI...all I can say is that I believed what she wrote. Nora spoke with an Irish dialect. I'm not generally fond of special dialects in books - but it wasn't over done and I found hers very easy to follow. In fact, for a couple of days after reading the book, I found myself thinking with a bit of an Irish dialect. The book has many surprising twists and turns. I would have to say it is one of the best adventure books I've read. If you like adventure, intrigue, betrayal, conspiracy theories and hot sex, you will definitely love this book. Note - I only post "reviews" for books that I highly recommend.

When I first read the summary of this book I wasn't interested in reading it however, after I read Graskey's other book I couldn't wait to get a hold of it. The story is fast paced with plot twists and romance and I am sure it will become as well read (numerous times) as her first novel was for me.

This review is from: October Echoes (Paperback)
What do you do when you're faced with a situation with dire consequences? And the person most capable of helping you is a woman locked away in prison, for being an IRA enforcer, as in Irish Republican Army Enforcer.
When a child is kidnapped, a female FBI agent is faced with just that. Nevertheless, she begins the process of "breaking" the enforcer out of prison. While the rest of the world is on the hunt for the escaped prisoner, both women begin the hunt for the kidnapped child. Their investigation takes them into the world of the Irish community, who takes care of their "own", and where an old enemy awaits one of the women? Who is this enemy? Which woman is the target? What will happen when the women meet up with this enemy? Will they be able to discover and ultimately rescue the kidnapped child? As they uncover clues and the possible identity of the kidnapper, the two women begin to experience feelings for each other. As the investigation proceeds and they spend more and more time together they, finally, acknowledge these feelings. Then other questions arise. Will the offer of freedom for the IRA enforcer allow them to have a future? What do they do if the unforeseen happens? Travel along as the writer takes you on an intriguing journey filled with drama, suspense and at times, tearful moments and memories.

Who Says Good Can't Come From Tragedy?,
By
This review is from: October Echoes, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
On the surface, this looks like a really short book with little substance. However, you truly can't judge a book by its cover. Graskey more than met my expectations by delivering a multi-faceted story with interesting characters and a great plot. Despite it's few pages, OCTOBER ECHOES is well worth the cost and time to read.
FBI agent Sara Pierson is assigned to rescue a kidnapped young boy. It appears the culprits are associated with the Irish Republican Army. To find him, she has to get help from convicted IRA rebel Nora DeBurgh. Nora is a tough cookie with a sophisticated personal network and an immense sense of pride and country. Knowing she will some day go back to prison, she agrees to help Sara for personal reasons. The ensuing adventure is quite amazing. Full of questions and answers, half-truths and half-lies, this complex story that spans two continents is actually more like classic literature than many books in this genre. It took me a while to get started because I was expecting something different, but I'm certainly glad I finished this enjoyable book.

International intrigue at it's best,
By
This review is from: October Echoes (Paperback)
From the opening image of the peaceful Irish countryside to the complexity of international politics, Graskey paints a vivid picture that stays in the mind. Her characters have the grit of reality, and the complexity of their relationships drew me into their lives. I found myself responding to the characters with real emotion, and I could not put the book down. There is no way to anticipate the plot twists in this book. Just when you think you can tell the good guys from the bad, a new level of deception crops up and revenge takes on new meanings. Whether you enjoy mysteries or intrigue or romance, there is something for you in this book. I can't wait for her next book.

Strange bedfellows: An IRA enforcer, doing time in prison, and an FBI agent join forces to find the kidnapped child of a British diplomat. This well-written thriller is a far cry from the formula plots that fill the market place. It moved quickly and kept me riveted until the last page. The chemistry between these tough, unlikely allies; the absorbing story and exciting pace made this one of the most pleasurable reads I've experienced in a long, long time.

Lesbian action story impresses gay male romance reader!,
By
This review is from: October Echoes, 2nd Edition (Paperback)
What happens when the 7 year old son of a British diplomat is kidnapped in America? Well, for one, FBI Agent Sara Pierson is called on to assist with finding the boy. The Brits claim the IRA is responsible, but the evidence and the manner in which the kidnapping was carried out indicates otherwise. Sara meets Nora de Burgh - an IRA enforcer serving time in prison. A scheme is devised to have Nora 'escape' prison and assist Sara solving the kidnapping case. What Sara doesn't plan on is dealing with the Russian mafia and falling for the hardcore IRA enforcer! And just when she thinks it's over - her world crashes! This is a heart racing and intense tale about a good FBI agent vs IRA rebels vs Brit diplomats vs Russian mafia vs lying US government officials! What more could you ask for in a novel of this nature? Great characters and a great storyline kept this gay dude reading - even through the girl-on-girl stuff! hehehe

Good Action & Plot,

This review is from: October Echoes (Paperback)
What a great change of pace and plot. I like the way the characters make no excuses for their actions and all the women are tough as nails and do what they do with confidence. Although they are constantly tired and hungry and they do have nightmares, issues that we find in most of the lesbian books these days, it is not overwhelming since the action and the plot are so strong. Also the hint of sexual promiscuity adds a little zing. Hope we get more creative plots from this author soon. Most enjoyable.

Good adventure story,

This is a fast paced adventure story about Sara Pierson, a FBI agent, and Nora de Burgh, who has been an enforcer for the IRA and is in an American prison. These two are reluctantly drawn to work together to try and find the son of a kidnapped British diplomat. There are twists to this story especially at the end. As they race to save the child, they find they develop a grudging respect for each other and then something more. You'll find yourself wondering if they'll save the child, but more importantly how they'll make this relationship work. It's a quick read and you'll enjoy it.
