Book Description

October Joy: Moments in Paradise Series, Book One

Annika loves a good love story. She lived her own for twenty-five years with her high school sweetheart, raising five children with Andrew Morgan and enjoying her life as a pastor’s wife from the Midwest Farmlands to the California Coast. But five years ago when her life on Earth ended in a fatal car accident, she began a wonderful new life in Paradise. Now her days are filled with many different sources of joy, but her family remains close to her heart. Her view of their lives from her heavenly dwelling is very sweet and peace-filled, but when several dramatic changes begin to unfold for them, she’s on the edge of her seat to find out what happens. Can Andrew find love again? And will Gracie, her oldest daughter, finally see the special man who’s been right in front of her eyes for a long time?

"Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them." (Revelation 21:3)

*October Joy is the first book in the Moments In Paradise series. Books in this series are meant to be read in sequential order.

Melanie Wilber is the author of the Moments In Paradise series, the Garden of Love series, the Seeking Heart series for teen girls, the Heaven in my Heart and True Friendship series for pre and early teens, and the Pure in Heart series for older teens and college-age readers. She also authors several devotional books and independent novels.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book!! October 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Really great book for any Christian who wants to be spiritually encouraged yet likes romance too. At first I was a little confused because , in the heaven scenes, the author refers to God as "Joshua" but I think that she got that from "Yeshua"and decided to turn it into Joshua instead of Jesus. That was rather confusing but it was nonetheless a book I very much enjoyed. Not only did it have a lot of romance (which I like) but it was very spiritually encouraging to me. What I really liked was that it was a God centered romance rather than simply a "I like you so why don't we make-out" kind of book. Overall, very enjoyable.

You will love, laugh and cry as you read this amazing story. Showing us different people, and situations of how they try to handle it. The setting was that of a pastor, and being a pastor's wife. One could relate of people in any work place. Of how people do things, because they feel they should, or what is expected. As in this story of the hurts that Sarah felt by the women in church . Doing what they wanted her today, and expected of her because of being a pastor's wife. Keeping these hurts inside her, till she mets Andrew. Realizing she had shut herself off from people. With Andrew and how he lives his life.
He not only lives, and listen to what God wants him to do. Loving his family, and now also Sarah, with a complete Christ like love.
Some may not like the reference to scripture and the written examples showing how they asked God in all things. Or of how Sarah starts a journal to begin to heal and let God help her day by day. Also,, some may not like the heavenly dialog of those in heaven. I thought it all fitted together. Great story and great examples of living with God in control of one!s life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book! November 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I loved this book! I cried a lot at first. The author painted an amazing picture of heaven. It was definitely nothing like I had imagined. It was much better (more real life than what I always imagined) If you're curious about what walking with God might mean, then read this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable April 30, 2014

I enjoyed this book. Sometimes I wasn't sure how true to life this was but I'm sure it is not impossible. Being a widow myself I could not relate to being ready to marry again after 3 mo but that is another story as well. I also had to think about the "heavenly window" of any truth to that. But at the end of the book the writer does explain that this was just her thoughts and after all this is a novel. Saying all of this I really did enjoy the book. It was sweet, fun, and a perfect ending.

This is a story that will draw you in and cause you to want to walk closer to the Savior. Just a wonderfully sweet book. I loved it and hated to come to the last page. I felt like I was leaving good friends. That said, I went straight to my Bible...I want to learn to enjoy Jesus more and practice His presence daily. Thank you. Melanie for this fantastic book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars October joy May 5, 2014

This is a thoughtful book that made me think about what life might be like for my pastor's wife. It makes me want to ask her if she feels overwhelmed at times. I enjoyed the drawing closer to God's plan for our lives and depending on his leadership.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice story April 22, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
She has some fun ideas about heaven to stimulate our thinking along the way of a godly story. They serve to generate some excitement for heaven, knowing that heaven is going to be better than we can imagine. It's a nice story of relationships that work out from the beginning, so you kind of have the happy ending early in the book, so there is about no suspense or drama. Instead, you get godly thought processing with good examples for the reader to learn from. It does make for a tad dryer story, as it's mainly narrative of events, but it's narrative of emotions too. There is very little in descriptions of physical things or the environment, like a warm wind blowing a a scent in the breeze. There are also no flashbacks in time to set up or explain a reaction in the present, but memory's are explained in the present. It has good character descriptions and why people think the way they do. I liked how she put, and I'm sure I won't use the same good wording, but something about that what we love in a spouse is actually tied to Jesus loving us though a spouse. Yeah, you'll have to read it to figure out what I mean.

I am frequently impressed by the quality of writing in a book from an unknown author (or an author without a large publishing company behind them).

More About the Author

My name is Melanie Wilber, and I have always enjoyed writing. At the age of twenty-two I decided to turn a childhood dream into reality by writing my first novel. Since then I have written more than 60 books for girls and women including the "Heaven in my Heart" and "True Friendship" series for pre and early teens, the "Seeking Heart" and "Pure in Heart" series for teens and college-age readers, the "Garden of Love" and "Moments In Paradise" series for older teens and women, along with several devotional books and independent novels.

My greatest desire is to know my God and make Him known. I believe in His unconditional love, and my mission is to help my readers embrace it for themselves. Some of my favorite Bible verses are Psalm 25:4-5, "Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD; point out the right road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you." (NLT)
