I am a follower of the novels from Tom Clancy in terms of the action and espionage plots that he develops. This box provides three good approaches to his work although they do not equal the books.
The performance from Sean Connery in "The Hunt for Red October" is definitely superb.
Similarly to these movies, I also recommend "The Sum of All Fears" based on the novel from Tom Clancy.

Of course, we have seen all three of these movies before but it had been some time ago. My husband and I are both fans of Harrison Ford and Tom Clancy, plus we love suspense type movies. We thought these were a great value and 3 Terrific films!

This is a GREAT price for a GREAT set of movies. The Hunt is one of my all time favorites and Patriot Games...Harrison Ford...need I say more? Clear and Present Danger is not my favorite of the three, but still an exciting Harrison Ford movie. If you like action and plot without too much gore and violence, these movies are for you.

I bow to others here to review what old movies are about. We most have seen them so you either like the flick or you don't. I buy the ones I like because I like them. DUH! The only thing I do care about buying DVDs is to buy the feature in it's OAR that it was filmed in. Any thing else is edited, therefore censored. So all my reviews of DVDs here only considers if the DVD came in the advertised aspect ratio and I only buy DVDs that are reproduced in the aspect ratio that they are made and played in at the theaters. This item - Jack Ryan 3 Pack (The Hunt for Red October / Patriot Games / Clear and Present Danger) (1990) - was advertised as being 2.35:1 which is what they played at in the theaters. What it was filmed in. Unedited. Uncensored. All three are 2.35:1. EXCELLENT! cIaO!

I have always enjoyed these three movies on VHS and wanted to convert to DVD before VHS went the way of the 8 Track.

These are thrillers, yes, but not in the sense of empty violence. These thrillers are great stories. They are full of mind-gripping suspense drawn from Tom Clancy's own knowledge of intelligence work and his background in military realms. Well worth the time.

You can look up the individual reviews. Of course some individual titles will go out of stock. Others may not be your favorite. However you will have friends and relatives that will want to compare Jack Ryan in different environments. A single case makes the movies easier to keep track of and look better on your video storage wall. Being DVDs this is a one-time investment. With the advent of multiple DVD changers you will be able to keep Jack Ryan ready at a moments notice. I tried buying individual as I had the money and found shipping was getting very expensive that way. So bite the bullet and buy the collection.

Afterwards you should buy "Three Days of the Condor" (1975)The feel of the movie is similar.

Each of the 3 movies are full of suspense, fun and high energy. I have watched them over and over again! :-)

If you're a thriller fan, you will enjoy every movie in this set. The Hunt for Red October is a classic of the genre, Patriot Games is Harrison Ford's first performance as Jack Ryan (after Alec Baldwin, who played Ryan in Red October, declined to return). Ford is impressive, and he makes the film better than it would be with any other actor in the role. But the real place he gets a chance to shine is Clear and Present Danger. It, admittedly, also helps that Clear and Present Danger has a better script: not that Patriot games had a terrible one. That was average, and there is only so much you can get out of such a script. It being average is why I'm only giving the set four stars. But Clear and Present Danger is decidedly above average. By itself, it makes the set worth buying. The other two are icing on the cake.

It's simple, you either like these actors or you don't. I happen to like all their works. This is a great addition to any collection if you enjoyed the big screen versions when first released. Hunt for Red Oktober is my favorite of all three because of Sean Connery's great acting abilities. That's it......
