This beautifully illustrated book takes us on a trip to the mythical octopus's garden deep beneath the sea.

Drawn especially for children -- but very cool for adults as well -- Octopus's Garden celebrates the freedom of being a child and being able to live your dreams: "We would be so happy you and me, no one there to tell us what to do."

The words and pictures express the joy of discovery and the comfort of being with your friends: "Oh what joy for every girl and boy, knowing they're happy and they're safe."

The accompanying CD features Ringo Starr reading the words to young children in a very friendly and reassuring way. There is also an opening message to kids from Ringo, a new recording of the song (no, it's not the Beatles), and an instrumental version for kids to sing along to.

The words to the song were inspired by a story that Ringo Starr was told in 1968 while sailing in the Mediterranean. He wrote the simple, playful words after being told by the boat's captain that octopuses travel along the sea bed and pick up shiny objects and stones which they use to build gardens in front of their caves.

This children's adventure is nicely illustrated by Ben Cort, a talented British artist with a simple, light touch who visually creates the fantasy land that we first heard about on Abbey Road. All in all, there is great humanity and innocence in this book and CD.

Highly Recommended.

‘Octopus's Garden’ written by Ringo Starr and illustrated by Ben Cort is a picture book that leads the youngest readers on a journey into the underwater world, to visit octopus's garden deep beneath the sea surface.

The book was inspired by author’s voyage in the Mediterranean when Starr heard story from the captain about the octopuses that travel across the world seas collecting bright objects and perfect stones to use them in their beautiful gardens deep beneath the sea.

Ringo Starr’s book is not complicated and therefore it’s tailored even for the young children about 3 years old who will enjoy beautiful story about friendship and the beauty and innocence of childhood, while looking at colorful illustrations of underwater peaceful environment. Ben Cort for this book prepared illustrations full of marine color shades that soothe the young reader making this picture book perfect for bedtime reading.

The book comes with a nice add-on, a CD that features the author Ringo Starr (The Beatles member) who reads the book to young children in pleasant and peaceful way that will appeal to children. On this CD there is also a new recording of the song and an instrumental version that kids can sing with, together with opening message from author.

‘Octopus's Garden’ is well-made beautiful looking picture book for the youngest readers, that both with its text and artwork will be enjoyed by parents as much as their kids. I have read it many times with my little daughter and given the additional content ‘Octopus's Garden’ provides, it can be recommended for your children, or as a nice gift for some other dear child.

Fun for Grandma - however granddaughter says, "That octopus again??" Guess it all depends on who is reading/listening!!! We'll wait till grandson is old enough to make an informed decision!!!

Being a Beatles fan from way back, it was such a joy for me to give this book to my 4 years old grandson. The illustrations are magnificent & the added CD allowed us to sing along with it. I would love to see more of this read & sing along idea.

Format: Hardcover
This adorable book by Ringo Starr and illustrated by Ben Cort will take Beatle fans (and others) of all ages on a Magical Mystery Tour below sea level. (You might want to rent a Yellow Submarine to get there.)

This book reels readers in with a little Beatle history as Ringo listened to a captain talk about octopi that use brightly colored stones and sundry to create an octopus's garden.

Very young children will enjoy the pictures and the lovely story that lulls you with the waves beneath the sea and the beautiful, bright illustrations will catch young readers/listeners' eye. Like the title song which you can find on "Abbey Road," the book reinforces the idea that every girl and boy is happy and they're safe.

In short, Ringo's book is all about the upside of childhood, the innocence, the credulity, the wonder and the message of hope. The CD of Ringo actually reading this book in a calm, friendly voice will appeal to ALL ages. You also get a bonus song, a current recording of the title song as well as an instrumental version. It's a nice way to segue into a little Beatle history and some cultural bonding.

Children of all ages (yes, even children old enough to drive, vote and own property) will love this book and the CD. The song is a timeless classic and the book will be too. Very soothing indeed.
