A great find!,

Strange...but true. I was not familiar with Laura Love untiltoday. I purchased a lot of CD's lately and, as fate wouldhave it, after rifling through them all, this was the first one I slipped in my car's cd player. Well, the diversity and energy blew me away. I just finished reading the 11 other customer reviews and I find all to be "on the money" covering different aspects of this album. Rather than be repetitive, I'll just give one more reason to buy this album: my favorite, the fantastic and unique Louisiana swamp infused/tribal beat/country yodel song 'Capricorn & Hominy'. Somehow, that one escaped the attention of all the other reviews. It shouldn't have. END

In the same amazing, mesmerizing way that David Lindley & El Rayo-X would cover a song and make it truly their own unique pleasure, Laura Love has a gift for transforming the music. There's simply no bad or even mediocre song on this album - how many artists can say that about theirs?
I stumbled across this album at one of Tower's listening stations, and was instantly charmed and amazed. I have highly diverse tastes - across the board and across the world - and yet I have few albums that are as well-rounded, consistently entertaining and so gifted. You see all the reviews here - every one with 5 stars - do you need to be kicked in the head to get with the program? Buy this album...

Social conciousness expressed through a joyful, unique voice,

Laura Love tackles a suprising range of issues and ideas on this album blending traditional, creole, celtic into something unique and powerful. At moments, the sheer joy comes through in her trademark yodelling. The instrument also turns somber on tracks like June 4th Foundation (dealing with Tianneman Square) and If I Knew. Her covers of Amazing Grace, Blind Bartimus, and Come As You Are breathe new life and energy into these tunes. An album for anyone who loves their music as a source of fun or inspiration or (most importantly) both.

Joyful Noise Unto The (or anyone's) Lord,

Full of true faith in life and love. This is one of the most gospel of gospel recordings I've heard in years. A treat that comes along just at the right time, when you're desparate to hear something fresh. I've seen her perform and it is indeed a true Revival Meeting! An eloquent offer of folk, funk, pop and a lot of other mixes you'd be pleasantly suprised to find. I've purchased this CD many times over just to give to friends so I don't have to part with my own copy! Of course I immediatley went out and grabbed "Shum Ticky" and although I thought it was good, I was thankful "Octoroon" was my first Laura Love experience. It will always be on my "Desert Island" list as evidenced by the tape for my Walkman, the CD at home and a copy downloaded on my PC at work.

I'm not much of a review writer, but this album is the kind of CD that you can listen to three times in row and want for more. It is a staple in my road trip CDs and has become one of my favorite albums to groove to.(I know, your not supposed end a sentence with a preposition.)

Folks that listen to a terrific station out near Greenville, SC introduced me to Laura Love, and I'm so grateful I listened! Laura Love's voice resonates with deep, grounded, beautiful clarity which unknowingly draws you into her songs. This album keeps you listening, as the songs range in variety and beat. It's hard to describe the general tone of the album, as her songs vary. I'd say there's a mix of bluegrass, folk, and one song even borders on celtic/folk. It's just really neat, foot-tapping music. I haven't heard any of her other albums, but am getting ready to take the plunge into buying another disc. Enjoy, and feel free to let me know how you feel about her music.

I bought this album many years ago...it was my first Laura Love album and still one of my favorite! I like her older stuff with the yodles and all - this CD and "Pangaea" both show off her unique voice quality.

Great Variety,

The sound of this CD is quite different from the 2 mp3s that Amazon.com has available for download, but I find myself loving it anyway. I want to say that there's more of a Louisiana sound, but I'm not sure that's accurate. Some songs sound celtic, some sound like pop, but they're mostly all unique and I find myself trying to sing along even if I don't know the words. Give the mp3s available for download a listen. As much variety as there is between those two songs there is between every song on this CD.

I've owned this CD for less than 24 hours, and I am already utterly hooked. You know how you listen to a CD once and absolutely know you're going to love it? Laura's CD did it to me. Another upbeat, strong woman whose voice can only be admired.

I fell in love with this album the first time I listened to it. What surprised me later was how much my kids -- 11 and 4 -- liked it. We have a great time singing some of the tunes driving down the road. I know the kids don't appreciate the more lyrical songs as much as I do, but it's great to see them enjoy the toe-tapping tracks.
