Strength and Beauty expressed in sound,

I am familiar with the musicianship of Paul Speer through his collaborations with various keyboardists back in the early 1990's. His work with Davia Lanz and with Quintana/Speer stood out as some of the more melodic and exciting music of the New Age genre. The Bridge of Sighs album on Narada is truly a classic. On this new release (2008), Paul continues to demonstrate his tasteful rock-based playing. This is an all instrumental journey with an Italian itinerary, as evinced by the song titles. Check out the mediterranean groove mode on the "Spanish Steps" track. The song "Firenze" is a showcase for his melodic guitar playing. While I also recommend Paul's Collection 991 album, I think that Oculus is his best album so far. While some tracks are atmospheric essays, the album as a whole is strong and beautiful. I hope that Paul will continue to record and release albums regularly, as I really enjoy his music. So, if you want a recommendation, take my advise and check out Oculus. It is throughly fine.

I know Paul Speer personally as an online friend (We met on Myspace of all places), and I have also been an admirer of his style of music for some time now. Paul and David Lanz have worked particular projects together, and although this is not one of them, it still sounds vaguely familiar along those lines. If you enjoy smooth guitar riffs, and that distinctly Paul Speer's sound, then add this to your collection. If you are are first time listener, then simply enjoy the unique sound of Paul Speer.

The debris of EuropeGuard voices of those days That passed by long ago It seems they will revive again Some day... The newest Paul Speer's release is a musical accompaniment to the video album entitled "Oculus". The guitar grooves of Paul Speer capture the listener from the very first chords. His music is very energetic and powerful. Paul Speer masterfully plays guitar. His compositions have volume and are versatile. They give the space for the listener's imagination. Paul Speer is truly skilful guitarist. His instrument conveys the smallest nuances of human emotions. And his music is very "male" by its nature. It is very active and well-ordered. I cannot tell you what will be better - to watch the "Oculus" DVD with its beautiful visual row or to listen to Paul Speer's album without the video. The listener will solve this question himself. But in any case the new release by Paul Speer won't leave you indifferent! Serge Kozlovsky [...]

I love every song on this CD. I bought Wonders with Paul Speer and Paul Lawler and thought I would try Speer on his own. I highly recommend it.
