5.0 out of 5 stars only 6 other reviews as of 9-16-05?, September 16, 2005
This review is from: Odd Fellows Rest (Audio CD)
Only other 6 reviews? Over 13 years and this is all the respect this album gets?
For those who have failed to add this to thier "metal collection", start reading now. I realize that all of you do not really appreciate metal. But for those who do, read. From the slow and melodic instrumental Intro, to "Planets Collide", to the trudging, kick you in the abdomen, let you get up and kick you again riffs from "December Spawn", this has to be a staple crop of any heavy metal farmer. Odd Fellows Rest will thrash you in your lower extremities and make you come back, begging for more. If your afraid to get up, fear not, for the title track "Odd Fellows Rest" is a trance setter of biblical proportions. Unfortunatley the following track "On frozen ground" will pile you deeper into the ground, with no air to breathe, thus suffocating the paltry amount of life left in you.

Violent, and demonically lethargic powered chords drag you by your throat through the painful act of "Odd Fellows Rest".

Just buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't not like this album, October 23, 2005
This review is from: Odd Fellows Rest (Audio CD)
Can enough great things be said about this band? From the opening notes of the intro to the closing of Remember Tomorrow, this cd grabs you by the nuts and doesn't let go. Crowbar is one of the most talented bands out there. Sadly they don't get the recognition they deserve, but that seems to be all too common for the truly talented bands. Don't hesitate, BUY THIS NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Named after a Cemetery, July 2, 2005

Just as a very tangential side note: Odd Fellows' Rest is the name of an especially atmospheric & decayed cemetery, complete with above groud tombs & crumbling walls, in New Orleans, La., Phil Anselmo's home town (& two minutes on the streetcar from my house). A very appropriate title for this dark music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A masterwork from the kings of southern doom, December 24, 2005
This review is from: Odd Fellows Rest (Audio CD)
This album is not for the feint of heart, but if you enjoy heavy, deep, emotional and most of all LOUD music, this album is for you. Crowbar has been making some of the heaviest music on the planet for many years, but this album was the one where they really started to expand their horizons and introduce other elements. It's breathtakingly dark, depressed, and beautifully melodic in the most surprising way.

Truly a standout album in their impressive catalog, and an absolute must for fans of heavy music.

5.0 out of 5 stars PURE POWER!, May 18, 2000

This is the heaviest thing on the planet, this album has class. After hearing "Broken Glass", I didn`t think I would ever hear another album as heavy. Odd Fellows Rest has everything, it is a huge step forward for Crowbar. Kirks vocals have progressed beyond anything thought imaginable. The tracks each have a different feel, which is hard to accomplish for some metal bands, but Crowbar have done it in style. With tracks like "Odd Fellows Rest", a mellow song if anything! to "Suffer as One", a stomach churning beast of a song! This album delivers, and it hits you hard. My Recommendation, at the end of "To carry the Load", hold on to something, here comes THE heaviest riff ever!

The singing is great and has emotion. It is also really heavy but at the same time catchy.

4.0 out of 5 stars The South has risen..., November 9, 2003
This review is from: Odd Fellows Rest (Audio CD)
Everytime I bust this out of the riffchives, it floors me. "Planets Collide" is worth the price of admission alone, but the treats don't stop there-this will slowly crush you, and you will love it. Kirk (guitars, vocals) once said he'd like his band to be like Motorhead, always touring and never going away...I just hope this is the case. Satan praise the riff, the sludge-behemoth hath awakened!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars thick as mississippi mud!, May 26, 2004
This review is from: Odd Fellows Rest (Audio CD)
this is the perfect soundtrack for a slug that gorged itself on lsd!the title track and the song after are awesome cause it goes from epic doom to dank-basement depression.intelligent lyrics and unique musicianship are why phil anselmo of superjoint and pepper keenan of coc call crowbar growler kirk windstein a brother in the band Down as well.you're just plain not a true metalhead if you think crowbar suck, and if you do I'm sure you adore your radio!

5.0 out of 5 stars Crowbar's best mature effort - NOLA sludge at its finest., May 30, 2007
This review is from: Odd Fellows Rest (Audio CD)
The title says it all. This is my favorite album of theirs, with "Crowbar" and "Sonic Excess..." close behind. Kirk's earth-shattering riffs groove like no one's business, with the help of the infamous Sammy Duet (ex-Acid Bath, Goatwhore, Ritual Carnage). If you like it "slow and heavy," you simply cannot go wrong with this album.
