5.0 out of 5 stars The best travel guide - period!
We recently moved to Colorado and purchased about a dozen travel guides to help us get oriented. Oddball Colorado was one we just sort of grabbed in the melee. This book is just so-so. It's not organized by area or route, so it's quite hard to find things near the places you are visiting. Skip it.

We recently moved to Colorado and purchased about a dozen travel guides to help us get oriented. Oddball Colorado was one we just sort of grabbed in the melee. My wife and I would burst out in spontaneous laughter as we read it. Rather than read it cover to cover, I found myself bouncing around from page to page. Just when I thought I had finished it I would discover another golden nugget I had overlooked. It was a sad day when I realized I had finally finished it!

Now all other travel guides seem inconsequential. Pohlen identifies the natural wonders that really matter (to me!). The cheesy roadside attractions that seemed to capture my father's big station wagon with their tractor beams. Reading the book is like taking a ride with my dad all over again.

Now I've moved onto Oddball Illinois. And I thought nothing could make me want to visit Illinois!

Would like to see a revised version of this book, some of it looks dated and sounded dated. but, its a great concept and an interesting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars great fun book, April 19, 2009
This review is from: Oddball Colorado: A Guide to Some Really Strange Places (Oddball series) (Paperback)
We recently moved to Colorado and wanted to find things to do in the area. I purchased this book along with another book about things to do in Colorado. This book lists some off the beaten path things to see and in our travels we recognized many of them. A great resource for something different to see in Colorado.

The title of this book says it all..oddball! I had recently moved to Colorado when I purchased this, and was suprised to discover all of the places "off the beaten path" that this book had to offer! Throw in a little humor and detailed descriptions of where each location is at, and you have a great starting point to all the places you really want to go!

This book is incredible! I have both the Colorado and Illinois ODDBALL books, and they are hilarious. I had no idea the amount of odd stuff that could be in one state. This is a great travel book! And makes a great gift!
