5.0 out of 5 stars A breath of fresh air for the West Coast Rap scene
Defari's drop of his first album, Focused Daily, really caught my attention. It was filled with skilled rhymes and slick production. Now, he returns to the scene on his second LP, Odds & Evens, which proves that an artist can remain consistent after almost four years of releasing a previous album. 3.0 out of 5 stars An unpleasant surprise
Man, even though this came out last year I only got this one this year and I was looking forward, in MY honest OPINION "Focused Daily" far surpasses this mediocre effort. I am sorry!!! but the quality of Focused Daily defies me to give this a proper review. don't get me wrong this album is nowhere below average it's just that I expected better. Only one song...

Defari's drop of his first album, Focused Daily, really caught my attention. It was filled with skilled rhymes and slick production. Now, he returns to the scene on his second LP, Odds & Evens, which proves that an artist can remain consistent after almost four years of releasing a previous album. The album starts out with "Pick a Number," a battle rap that is unbelievable. Following this is "Inner City," which is filled with tight verses and tradeoff rhymes with E-Swift. "Cold Pieces," the third song is pretty well done. I mostly appreciated the creativity on this track, where he describes girls who pass him by throughout the day. "Spell My Name" is probably the best track on this album. I also enjoyed "Pour More Likwit," "Los Angelinos," and "Hooks." One song that one might not enjoy, especially those who have followed Defari through the years is "Slumpy," which has a sort of G-Funk style production, which you might expect from Snoop Dogg or Dj Quik. However, Defari, handles this track well with his rhyme experience, and the hook to this song pretty funny. I have heard some people say that this album lacks good quality production, but I have to disagree. The production is very well done from Evidence and Dj Babu. I think one has to remember that this is not your average mainstream or commercial album, where some rap artists rely on name brand producers to put in work for every song on their album. The production on this album holds creativity and originality, and Defari's lyrical delivery are superb. This is what underground hip hop is all about, originality and creativity. Overall, this entire album is great, far superior to most rap albums which were released in 2003. If you are tired of the mediocre and repetitive material in most rap albums today, then I suggest you check this album out. Odds & Evens really stands out as one of the greater releases by a West Coast artist within the past few years.

5.0 out of 5 stars A West Coast Classic, August 6, 2003

After dropping his first album, "Focused Daily," Defari is back with a bangin' follow up, "Odds and Evens." From start to finish the album is enjoyable. Defari's lyrics are creative and smoothly polished. The production is also superb, as E-Swift, Evidence, Dj Babu, and Fredwreck contribute their work to the album. What makes the album even greater is Defari's diverse subject matter. He raps about inner city life in the song "Inner City," his childhood in "For the Love," and creativily describes women he encounters in "Cold Pieces." I greatly enjoyed the songs "Spell My Name," "Los Angelinos," and "Hooks." I definitely recommend this album to any hip hop lover, especially those who are looking for a refreshing rap album from a West Coast artist,

This review is from: Odds & Evens (Audio CD)
After dropping his first album "Focused Daily" in 1999, Defari is back with his second bangin' solo album, "Odds and Evens." From start to finish, this album is laced with skilled lyrics and production. Defari's lyrics are extremely superb on this album. He touches a variety of subjects which will keep you listening. In addition, the production by Fredwreck, DJ Babu, E-Swift, and Evidence are impressive. I enjoyed such songs as "Spell my Name," "Hooks," and "Los Angelinos." I definetely recommend this album to anyone, especially those who are looking for a refreshing rap album from a West Coast artist.

This Lp is excellent,16 tracks 1 interlude and 1 joint shorter than 2 minutes the other 14 tracks are excellent, flawless better yet. With Production by E-Swift and Evidence(of Dilated Peoples) who both produced Defari's 1st Lp"Focused Daily" along with The Alchemist who is noticeably absent this time round-personally since I'm a fiend for Al's jointz it woulda been great to have a couple of his eerie sample driven tracks meshed with Defari's butter smooth west coast rhymes. But other than that no complaints here. Also poppin up on production is one of Snoop Doggs in(Dogg)House producers Fred Wreck and DJ Babu(Dilted Peoples/Beat Junkies),babu s sole contribution is the remizx to his originally produced"Behold ny Life" which also features Dilateds MC's Evidence and Iriscience this joint is excellent and if u never heard the original definitely check it on Babu's Duck Season Mixtape its beat is a little more slow and laid back than the remix, other joints to check for on this album are "Pick A Number" which is produced by Evidence,"Cold Pieces" also prod. by Ev,"Hooks","For the Love","Odds and Evens","Pour More Likwit"(F/J-Ro of tha liks)"Los Angelinos"(f/Evidence),The first single/video "Spell My Name", and my personal favorite track on the whole album "Diamonds in The Rough" the beat is iller than a dope sick heroin addict and the lyrics deep and from Herut's(Defari)heart. Get this album asap and cop anything by Defari and anybodys album hes on cuz if hes on it yall know they dope 2.

4.0 out of 5 stars Odds and evens............nice and tight., November 14, 2003
This review is from: Odds & Evens (Audio CD)
Defari dropped an album, out of the blue for some, in '98 called " focused daily" which was a sound-bomb. Laced with the tightest production and rhymes for a while. I honestly didnt expect him to reach those levels again with this joint. However im delighted to say, not only did he reach them, he blew them away. There's 15 joints here plus an interlude with Derari's cohort chocalate tye on it, and apart from that and possibly "Hooks" which i couldnt get into (although everyone else seems to have done it effortlessly) the entire album is FLAWLESS. From start to finish its solid, funky, hard edged sound compliments Defari's flow brilliantly. Stand out tracks for me are "inner city", "cold pieces", "spell my name", "odds and evens" (my favourite),"diamonds in the rough", "for the love" and "los angelinos". Go get this album. Amazing!!!!!!!

Only one song caught my attention, "Hooks" , I was kinda hoping that "Say it twice" was here. Hell yeah I am comparing this to Focused Daily , growth or not. 3 stars is fair if not generous.

The album is very listenable, but if you really felt his previous effort you'll actually feel like you've been ripped off. If you are new to Defari go for Focused Daily.
