4.0 out of 5 stars Dream anaylsis, May 18, 2000

This review is from: Odilon Redon: Prince of Dreams (1840-1916) (Hardcover)
An excellent, detailed overview of Redon's career and artistic output, this book tells you everything you ever wanted to know about the artist's life and times. The only disappointment I felt was the lack of real insight into his work. Fabulous reproductions of the artist's incredible works tantalize as you search for interpretation in the text. Historical fact is all you get however. Somehow this seemed ironic in a book about a "Prince of Dreams". An absolute must have for any lover of Redon's art - the most complete published source - and the reproductions are truly phenomenal!

5.0 out of 5 stars AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL DIG INTO THE COLORS OF REDON, September 12, 2009
This review is from: Odilon Redon: Prince of Dreams (1840-1916) (Hardcover)
I bought the book titled Odilon Redon, Prince of Dreams, in order to have a visual record of his art work. This book contains much of his significant work. Although some of the images are small, the reproduction quality is fine enough for close study. In addition to cataloging the work; this book examines Redon's life and his importance within the symbolist art movement; and provides an in-depth dissection of Redon's process of applying color to his works. In fact, the authors provide in great detail a near "archaeological" dig down through the layers of color that Redon applied to his painting, pastel, and charcoal drawing surfaces. The reader is rewarded with an exploration of the technique that made Redon one of the most accomplished artists within the symbolist movement. Copyright. 2009. John Kurtz

5.0 out of 5 stars Odilon Redon: Prince of Dreams, December 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Odilon Redon: Prince of Dreams (1840-1916) (Hardcover)
I was impressed how quickly this book came to me in Australia and the condition of the book was like new and very reasonably priced. For serious fans of Odilon Redon, like myself this book is essential. It covers all his artwork compared to similar artwork of the time. You can see how he influenced other artists with his style during his career. There are pictures of his work and similar other artists work on the same page. Studying his methods and subject matter I refer to this book often and is a must for any person serious about getting to know the life and work of Odilon Redon.
