5.0 out of 5 stars Hammer of the Gods, March 31, 2001

Rev 7:12 (Columbia, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Odin Owns Ye All (Audio CD)
I began my metal-listening career with Blind Guardian's "Nightfall in Middle-earth," which I found to be enormously impressive. With the Century Media order form I found enclosed in the CD, I decided to experiment with other metal bands to find a sound I liked. With that order form, I purchased Iced Earth's first CD, based on rave reviews of the band I had read, and Einherjer's "Odin Owns Ye All," purely because I thought it had an awesome title. I have read several reviews of "Odin" warning prospective buyers not to get this title if they are unused to "Viking metal" or are just experimenting. I could not disagree more. I don't know what the hell Viking metal is, but if it at all resembles the songs on "Odin" it rules the earth. Though Einherjer do not possess the instrumental prowess of the Blind Guardians out there, and the vocals take a good deal of getting used to, it would be an extreme injustice to say they are anything short of brilliant. "Odin" is absolutely dripping with a creative power and energy that you should be lucky to hear in a lifetime. The song "Out of Ginnungagap" starts the CD off with a flood of impassioned fury, which further develops with the more melodic, almost playful "Clash of the Elder." In short, I love "Odin," but apparently its universal appeal is somewhat questionable, so maybe you should only buy it if you're feeling adventurous.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lot of atmosphere, festive, greatest cd I've got for awhile, December 21, 2000
This review is from: Odin Owns Ye All (Audio CD)
This cd is great. I'll admit its not for everyone, but if you like vikings, great metal, or are a follower of Asatru like me you'll most definantly savor it. The songs tell of some of the most important events in norse mythology with such atmosphere and feeling that I feel like one of the vikings at a blot or something. Its also good if you just want to get wierd looks from people around you like"what the heck is that?" I really enjoyed it, Odin owns ye all! Along with Frigga, Tyr, Thor,...ah you get my point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Einherjer Owns Ye All, May 25, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Odin Owns Ye All (Audio CD)
Not quite a concept album, but contains an (obvious) overriding theme. Lyrics run the spectrum from the creation of life out of Ginnungagap to the post-Ragnarok earth. The music is more heavy metal than death, black, or doom. Very strong riffs and melodies enhance this energetic album. The staccato beats in "Inferno" and the atmospheric bass intro to "A New Earth" are simply astounding. Although I might've preferred a more conceptual album with a greater correlation between tracks, there's nothing else holding back this album from incessant replays on my stereo.
