Nigeria's utmost musical statesman, King Sunny Ade, enlists a huge band-18 musicians in all-for Odu. The exuberant album is a wonderful example of musical build-up, from the elegantly intoned talking drums to slinking guitars and then a vocal power that grows exponentially with each additional voice taking on new choruses. This latest chapter in King Sunny's lengthy career exemplifies our need for more of his music, as his discography is nearly innumerable in his native country. This rendition of King Sunny's trademark highlife music skiffles with the best polyrhythmic beats, dropping lots of clearly struck guitar riffs around for a mesmerizing World Pop experience. These are familiar waters for the fan of African popular music. In Odu, King Sunny extends his look at syncopated, danceable and melodious music with vibrant production quality and flawless audio. --Andrew Bartlett

I have been listening to Sunny Ade's music since 1975. The music is just too wonderful to the soul. Anytime I am sorrowful and I put on the CD, I usually forget my sorrow. No doubt, Odu is just wonderful. I love the man and his music. He is a good Ambassador of Nigeria.

I don't know how many albums King Sunny Ade has created, but I love this one. We were introduced to Ade by a Chicago cabby who happened to be playing his music. I couldn't find the exact album he was playing on Amazon, but trusted the reviews for this one. It is terrific. Some songs have a Latin feel, others are almost Hawaiian, all of them are uplifting. Now that we have this album, we'll be looking for more!

I have a special place in my heart for African music after living in Botswana for two years so may be biased in my appreciation for this CD. I have found that anyone that I share this likes it immediately even though it is the type of music that sounds better each time you listen. One of my favorite songs of all time is on this CD, track 5, Kiti Kiti, about the sorrows of war but ironically upbeat and cheering in it's beat and healing in it's lyrics and melody.
