5.0 out of 5 stars A great meal substitute
I was looking for something that I could eat for breakfast that would give me a good start to the day without causing a huge jump in my blood sugar level and keep me feeling content until lunch. I had been eating Zone bars - but I think this does a better job of keeping my blood sugar on the straight and narrow. Oh - I also like the way it tastes. 16 grams of protein, 4...

3.0 out of 5 stars No confusing this with a tasty tread
These are high in protein and other nutrients such that they make a useful snack or meal replacement. They would be improved if Odwala has not added salt.

Taste is, of course, subjective, but I find these bars
a) limp and soggy, and they sometimes stick to the roof of one's mouth
b) having a smell reminding one of old fashioned health food stores...

These bars are not as bad as other protein bars that I have tasted. The granola is flavorful and not masked by the soy protein infusion - I recommend these bars as a snack in between meals, they hold me over while out on patrol and/or convoys (I'm in Iraq for awhile) and the guys in my unit also like the bars.

The bad thing is delivery - Amazon does not deliver these to APO/FPO addresses, even though the boxes are located in the continental U.S. - I have to have these shipped to my wife, who in turn re-packages them and sends them on to me. It adds a few weeks to the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Protein, Super Good, February 6, 2008

I love the Odwalla Super Protein Bar's. The taste is good, and they are made out of real food, I think these are as "unprocessed" as a meal replacement bar can get. They are not as delicious as Zone bars, and not as filling as Muscle Milk, but because of the safety issues with the latter and expense/unhealthy ingredient issues with the former, I've been looking for an alternative with plenty of protein, and these fit the bill.

I'm trying to lose the last 8 pounds left from my pregnancy with my third child, and I don't have time to cook much, especially in the morning. These are a filling breakfast, especially with a cup of hot green tea. In fact they are so hearty that sometimes I'll eat just half of one after I drop off my daughter in the morning, on my way to the gym, and the other half after I get back to the car, to tide me over until I can get my hands on a more substantial meal (and prevent a stop at all those drive-thru's I pass on my way to my next stop).

The thing to remember, if you are trying to drop body fat, is that these have nearly as many calories as many Healthy Choice Meals, and those often have a protein (meat or poultry), a starchy veggie like potatoes, gravy, a full serving of green veggies, and a dessert, so for me, these meal replacement bars are strictly for when I don't have time to eat something more substantial. That said, the taste is good and they generally don't leave me hungry. I am usually fine for at least two and a half hours after eating one of these bars.

Lower in calories for the amount of protein it provides. Has a natural taste unlike other protein bars that mask their bars with chocolate flavor, ect... It's on the chewy side and I don't feel like I am chewing on cardboard or something synthetic. Great for on-the-go- at 230 calories/40 fat calories/16g protein a bar.

For a somewhat picky eater, these health food bars taste well enough to keep eating them. I enjoy the fact that they have a large amount of protein, and the price available here is hard to beat.

I am pleasantly surprised having liked this bar. Contains a lot of protein. Ingredients are healthy and organic. It tastes very good, compared to other protein bars. It is a plus that it is sold by Amazon--I get it without a shipping fee (Prime membership) and fast.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as Tasty as the Other Bars, But Not Terrible, January 25, 2007
This review is from: Odwalla Nourishing Food Bar, Super Protein, 2.2-Ounce Bars in 12-Count Boxes (Pack of 2) (Health and Beauty)
Some of the other bars, like the BerriesGoMega, Superfood, Strawberry Pomegranate and Chocowalla are more tasty, but this one is packed with protein. I felt compelled to write this review because this bar is not as bad as the other reviewer suggests. The fact is, it's hard to pack a lot of protein into a bar and keep it tasting great. Odwalla does a pretty good job.

I would suggest also having something else around to eat, though, as two of these boxes would be a lot to eat without getting sick of these bars. I got through one over a few weeks, no problem, and I'm not totally sick of the bars.

Their very tastelessness is an advantage in that you won't be tempted to one of these until you really need to.

I feel good about eating things I can pronounce... and the protein in this bar makes it perfect for breakfast. I'm satisfied for several hours!

4.0 out of 5 stars Super Protein -- sweet but not much flavor otherwise, January 29, 2008

This review pertains to the Super Protein flavor protein bar made by Odwalla:

I generally like Odwalla bars. None of the flavors has disappointed me, though I do like some of them more than others. (The blueberry and peanut/chocolate chip flavors are particularly good.) The best thing about the Super Protein flavor is that it, in fact, does have more protein than many other bars of similar weight and caloric content. The bad news is that while this flavor doesn't taste bad, it really doesn't have much flavor beyond "sweet." So, while I sometimes eat this bar before or after a workout when I cannot make a whey protein shake, I actually prefer other flavors (even though they have less protein) if I'm just looking for a bar to eat as a small meal/snack.
