This review is from: The Odyssey--Butler Translation (Paperback)
Butler takes a classic and turns it into pablum. You might as well get Cliff's Notes for the Odyssey as read this book, or you might want to read it as a guide to turn-of-the-20th-century English prose style.

Butler tediously mentions technical problems (places that geographically are not really where the author of the Odyssey says they are, for example) that have nothing to do with the enjoyment of the read. In addition, Butler is quite proud of his claim that the writer of the Odyssey was a woman. He dismissively points out places where no man would ever write a given phrase.

Go for any version but this one.
