One of my first (and best) reads,

This review is from: Odyssey from River Bend (Hardcover)
I read this book back in third grade. I remember that it was one of the first book that I found gripping from the very beggining! The premise is a group of forest animals, from a half-civilized society, who go on an epic quest to discover the truth about, and the knowledge of, the mysterious Ancients Who Were And Are No More. I won't say anything more, as I don't want to spoil it - but I will say that it was a great book, and that I loved it!

Evolving animals explore a future world.,

This review is from: Odyssey from River Bend (Hardcover)
This is a fun and entertaining fantasy adventure. It concerns a world removed from our own by a considerable time - enough so that some animals are evolving their own cultures, tools, and towns. Join a group of young characters out to explore the world and solve the mysteries of the "ancients" that had come before. The future has many dangers, and our brave group will have to face all that mother nature, fellow animals, and their own fears can throw against them. The characters are beleivable and the world is interesting. The values of friendship, perserverance, and courage are upheld throughout. I first read it in third grade, but love it still.

I have read this book many times and even as an adult I still love this book. It shows how animals can work together if they put their minds to it. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves animals.

This review is from: Odyssey from River Bend (Hardcover)
Here's a charming, exciting children's book that can be read & enjoyed by adults just as much. In the far future, animals have evolved into a rudimentary civilization, living in small villages deep in the forest. Life is hard, dangerous, filled with famine & fear -- but some of the animals dream of finding the secrets of the Long Ago Ones, who once lived in the Haunted Lands. So a brave little band sets forth on their odyssey, hoping to discover those lost & forgotten secrets ...
Like the previous reviewers, I don't want to spoil the ending. But I will say that what they discover is not only startling, it has some valuable lessons for today. The characters have strong personalities, and their journey is described in vivid, often nail-biting detail. It's a book definitely in need of reprinting, and well worth seeking out!

I read this book while in third grade, and loved it. I remember that it was one of the first book that I found fascinating from the very beggining - it's a peculiar form of sci-fi/fantasy, with animals as heroes, engaging in an epic quest to discover the secrets of an ancient civilization - I'll say no more so that I don't spoil it. I enjoyed every part of it.
