"Of Darkness and Light" by Lily Crussell
3 out of 5 stars
I really did enjoy this story line. I have to admit that after I got hooked and was no longer pushing myself to read it, I did not want to put it down. Lily has a wonderful storyline here. When I reached the end I did say; NO! I need more. So that deserves 3 stars. The cover was sort...

5.0 out of 5 stars Of Light and Darkness,

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!,
This review is from: Of Darkness and Light (Shadow of the Nephilim) (Kindle Edition)This is definitely one of my favorite books. I have read it at least four times now and I'm still not tired of the characters and how they make the story great. My favorite is Barachiel because he is beautiful and
hilarious in every way possible! I don't know when the next book will come out, but I'm on the edge of my seat waiting.
4.0 out of 5 stars Slow to start, but great read.,
This review is from: Of Darkness and Light (Shadow of the Nephilim) (Kindle Edition)The story centres around Elora, a young 17 year old girl who lives mostly on her own due to her parents travelling. She is attacked by an invisible force and then followed by a strange man (Raziel). She thinks the two might be connected but the stranger reads her mind and assures her he doesn't wish to harm her. Elora and Raziel become close, falling in love and Raziel acting as her protector against the unseen force who continues to attack Elora when she is on her own. One day Raziel disappears and Elora is kidnapped..
It took me a few days and several chapters to really get into the story. In the beginning I was able to put it down and that meant that sometimes I had to reread the last few pages again because I had forgotten what had happened. Once you get into the flow of the story it just seems to carry you right through to the end. At this point I couldn't put the book down.
Considering the book features Angels, Fallen Angels and Nephilim, religion doesn't feature heavily in the book. Yes she has a Christian friend and yes there is talk of God, but not enough to put the non-religious off reading the book.
I look forward to the second book in the series.
4.0 out of 5 stars Angels among us.,
This review is from: Of Darkness and Light (Shadow of the Nephilim) (Kindle Edition)I was given this book in return for an honest review. Elora is a high school student who basically lives by herself, her parents are never there for her and she is completely self sufficient. Her best friend since the age of 6 is a christian boy named Thomas. He is more like her parent than her parents are and he is the only person she truly relies on. Elora does not really believe in god or religion in general. But when she starts hearing strange things and feeling like she is being watched, she thinks she might be going crazy. Enter Jack, a beautiful young man of mystery who she needs answers from but can't get them. Eventually she finds out he is an angel, she adapts to the idea fairly quickly considering she doesn't believe in them. Elora keeps getting attacked by an unknown and unseen assailant and Raziel pretty much moves into her house to protect her. Elora starts doing research into the Nephilim, although the angels do not believe that they exist. Elora is convinced a Nephilim is behind the attacks, although she doesn't know why. After a particularly heinous attack on Elora, she awakes in the hospital to find that a new angel, Barachiel is there. Raziel is missing and the angels can't find him. She goes into such a deep depresion that even Thomas has stopped interacting with her, her only contact at this point is Barachiel, who she is developing a deep friendship with. When he also goes missing, she decides enough is enough, she is going to find out what is going on even if it kills her. Enter Lucifer, who is fascinated by her and even seems to like her on some level. He pops in throughout the book to help her out. She enlists Thomas's help and shares the whole story with him. She has to figure out who has the angels, where they are and how to save them before it's too late. But at what cost? I enjoyed this story immensely, is it bad that my favorite character was Lucifer?? He was fantastic, engaging and quite funny in this book. I'm going to be watching for the next book, because there is definately more to this story. WaAr
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written!,
This review is from: Of Darkness and Light (Shadow of the Nephilim) (Kindle Edition)I snagged this book free a couple weeks ago and started reading it finally yesterday. Needless to say, I devoured it!
Beautifully written, I felt completely submerged inside Elora's mind as she went through her daily boredoms, her crazy ramblings, her amazing emotions and her devastating tortures.
I don't like summarizing what I read in a review, that's what the back or the book is for, so I won't. But I will say, if your a fan of YA, angel's and stubborn, determined and a little crazy heroines, this is the book for you!
4.0 out of 5 stars Great start to the series,
This review is from: Of Darkness and Light (Shadow of the Nephilim) (Kindle Edition)I was given this book on a read to review basis.
Over all, the book is entertaining, full of action, fast paced and there are some great twists. The storyline and characters were well thought out and the relationships between them all was amusing and fascinating. Many will be able to relate to parts of Elora's story and her character grows significantly throughout the book. The conversations between Elora and Lucifer are comical, and this twist really lightens the whole storyline.
There is a strong undertone of biblical references, which some may not like, but I didn't felt it added rather than distracted from the book.
I have a feeling we'll be seeing Sarah again in the next book, as her story just seems to be starting in this book - but I may be wrong.
Looking forward to reading the next in the series.
3.0 out of 5 stars Of Darkness and Light,
This review is from: Of Darkness and Light (Shadow of the Nephilim) (Kindle Edition)The book starts off with a bang, throwing Elora right into the fray as the weird stuff starts happening. Then we watch as she meets Raziel and things continue to get weirder. Once he starts hanging around more often, things get safer, but not more normal as he comes clean about himself and everything Elora believed in gets tossed out the window.
The best thing I can say about this book is the character relationships. Elora and Raziel's love story is incredibly sweet and totally swoon worthy, her friendship with Thomas is adorable, and the relationship that's created between her and Barachiel and her and Lucifer are both pretty fun actually. However, there's also a lot I didn't much like about the book. I like that there's mystery that keeps you guessing pretty much right up until the end, but it got really frustrating at times and turned out really confusing more often than not. There's also a LOT of philosophical musing throughout, putting a very religious undertone to it that made me personally slightly uncomfortable (but that's just me).
There's also a lot of down time in the book, spent waiting and going through the motions. One thing that really bothered me is how often Elora put herself down. I understand the instances where it was the "angels are superior and awesome" etc etc, but still it was really brought up too often and made you want to start slapping some people around, including Elora. That being said, the overall story is still exciting and intriguing and the book is worth checking out!
5.0 out of 5 stars amazing,

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesomeness!!,
This review is from: Of Darkness and Light (Shadow of the Nephilim) (Kindle Edition)Okay so what can I say about this book other than it being one of the best books that I have ever read!! (I'm like so serious its up in the top 5)...Lily Crussell use's such great detail and description that I didn't feel like I was reading I felt as if I was watching a movie playing in my head. Elora grow so much throughout the book that I felt as if she were a real person. Not only does Lily make me fall in love with the characters but she makes me feel for them to.
I would wipe my memory clean just so I could have the chance to read it again as if it were the first time. My sister read the book as well and felt the same way that I did about it. (Which means a lot because she hate reading). So I guess what I'm trying to say is 'GO GET THIS BOOK'. You will not be disappointed. :)
