Book Description

February 15, 2010
In this illuminating, heart-felt and bittersweet humorous book, cancer survivor Genae Girard shares her personal journey through the raw pain of a cancer diagnosis to a new normal way of vital living. She reveals her innermost thoughts with a surprising candor and unique, quirky creativity to help others have a fresh perspective in understanding this life-changing disease. There is power in self-education, taking control of the medical treatment process and being able to get real in handling the scary stuff by keeping a sense of humor about it all. And she shares her process openly…
  • how her boyfriend of three months went quickly from hunter to caregiver,
  • what happened when treatment didn t go as planned,
  • how she made friends with the fear, and, most importantly,
  • how she created a new life from the inside out.

Whether you are walking the path of cancer treatment personally or love someone who is, this book can teach you how to grow beyond the situation into your best version of yourself.

There are a lot of books available about breast cancer but none as personal and intimate as Genae Girard's "Off The Rack". Ms. Girard takes readers on her unexpected journey with the "alien" that has entered her thirty- something year old body without invitation. With heart and humor, Ms. Girard shares with us very personal feelings about her diagnosis, treatment and reconstruction. Until I read this book I had no idea what breast cancer patients experience. Though no one can fully understand without walking in their shoes, I certainly understand a lot more after reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laughing through the tears... September 10, 2011
By K. Maz
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was Dx 10/01/10. I was lost. Everything I read on the internet was just as depressing as my new news. I cant even remember how many books I purchased, but what I can remember is that they all made me more scared then informed... Then I found "Beyond The Boobie Trap" and I knew things were going to be okay. I laughed so hard that I cried (a GOOD cry). I recently went back a re-read the book, now that treatment is over and I am trying to get back to "normal" and Genae was sooooo right in every thought. This booked helped me through a lot! Thank you Ms. Genae!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read! June 26, 2011
Format:Paperback
Off the Rack chronicles the life of a young, single, breast cancer survivor. Genae speaks candidly in her book and lets the truth be her guide. I read this book before I had a double mastectomy and it was extrememly helpful in building my confidence to move forward. This is a must Read for anyone in the battle of their life and this is not a depressing cancer book, you will be uplifted and filled with HOPE.
