Book Description

The last thing she needs is a hero…

First Responders, Book 1

Paramedic Gabe Brennan’s job is saving lives. When he witnesses an accident and rushes in to help, the victim brings back memories of the night that marked him forever. The night he almost couldn’t save his best friend, Brandon. Brandon’s sister is in the car. She’s pregnant. And his longing for her is just as sharp as ever.

Carly’s never been so glad to see a friendly face. Gabe’s gallant rescue—and the gentle kiss he bestows upon her at the hospital—resurrect feelings she buried long ago. Having just closed the book on a crumbling marriage, she’s not too keen on opening herself up to hurt again. Not even for the one man who’s always seemed to be there when she needed him most.

Gabe knows he shouldn’t be falling for Carly, especially since she insists she’s off the market. But the chemistry still simmering between them after all these years is no accident. Now all he has to do is convince her she belongs in the empty space he’s always held open for her. The one next to his heart…

Caution: Contents—and paramedic hero—may be too hot to handle!

When paramedic Gabe Brennan witnesses an accident on his way home, he is shocked to discover the victim is none other than his best friend's sister, Carly Douglas. A very pregnant Carly, and the same one who still makes his body burn after so many years.

Gabe's face is the first thing Carly sees when she opens her eyes after being in an accident. The events following afterward leave her wondering if she made a mistake in letting him go. After a terrible divorce she is reluctant to put herself in a vulnerable position, and leaves her wondering if Gabe is the man who will truly love her?

The push and pull of Carly and Gabe's relationship kept me on the edge of my seat in Donna Alward's Off the Clock. The chemistry between them simmered throughout the book even as the events forced them to work out their issues. In typical man fashion, there were times that Gabe seemed really dense regarding Carly's feelings toward him but his heart of gold easily soothed Carly's fears. Off the Clock is a book you want to curl up with when you are in the mood for something light and sensual.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Sensitive Sexy Story January 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
From the first paragraph Off the Clock by Donna Alward will have you hooked. There's so much emotion jam-packed in this novella that it will leave you breathless. I loved how Alward had Carly and paramedic Gabe reunited with a car crash in the first chapter. I totally felt for single mother, Carly, who struggled with finding herself, learning how to be a mother while trying to keep control of her feelings for her brother's best friend. Gabe is so thoughtful and sexy, he'll make your mouth water with want. His caring attitude to Carly and her baby add elements that make you want all men to aspire to. Set in Nova Scotia, Off the Clock is full of sweetness that will have you turning pages faster than you anticipate.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love a second chance story... November 9, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Gabe and Carly's complex history and current attraction propels Off the Clock in a way that you won't want to put your Kindle down until you've reached the end. I loved how Alward wrote these characters with intense passion for each other but with conflicting, realistic emotions. I'm looking forward to more First Responder books!
