Saw the Carpenters in concert at my College. They were fantastic. We had a lot of the groups play there. I remember the Association being terrible. They were almost to the end of Cherish when I recognized the song.
Polly, I have to tell you (after your cute "Black and White" friends) that our next-door neighbors are the Wongs, and the family across the street from us are the Wrights. (We have trouble telling Wright from Wong.) We're a pretty tight bunch of neighbors at "our" end of the cul-de-sac, and we all get a laugh out of that one ...
I loved Karen Carpenter's voice. To me, her voice was pitch perfect, soothing, gentle. I was never a crazy fan, but I liked to visit her beautiful voice.
It is like....on one side of the street, you have the teenage hangout ( The Creamery ) where everyone is sipping cokes and wearing bows in their ponytails, chatting with friends while Karen sings on the jukebox in the background.
On the other side of the street, you have ANOTHer teenage hangout ( The Den) where everyone is wearing leather, their hair is teased and messy, and the Stones "Paint it Black" is booming while slightly grungy adolescents bump and grind on a small dirty dance floor.
Occasionally, I liked hanging out at the creamery where Karen's voice was filling up the room. ;-)
More times than not, I was at the other place. >:}
Morning Deb...I too had a quandary with the threads...I found something I wanted to post and you helped make up my mind. It's really far out so this is the place. Reading about Roy Orbison there was a video of Bono talking about him and like a psychic experience and hearing an over voice...That's how I feel hearing Adam's voice...this is good if you're willing to go a little "off the beaten path"...lol... .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohhh_TSJ8QI&feature=player_embedded
Just post where your heart is, deb. "It ain't that deep." :) I didn't know that leeskerette intended this thread to be the extension of Odds n Ends - her first post didn't indicate that to me. It just seemed that Odds & Ends 2 would be the logical thread for the continuation of Krickette's Odd & Ends thread.
Music ~ Please don't feel badly...we have lots of threads! Odds & Ends 2 is a fitting tribute to Krickette....we do miss her. It's nice to see another Odds and Ends. I'm glad you were here with Roy Orbinson! Gini :D
I saw Karen up close and watched her perform...a pure voice,such a tragic story...her parents and Richard were control freaks,they did not her want her to have any life outside of the family..she had no self esteem and felt unloved,she did it to herself but they drove her to the edge of the cliff...hep
