In Defense of OSSP..., August 4, 2002
This review is from: Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace (Audio CD)
After reading the reviews for Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace, I felt that I must both agree with and rebuke the other "critics". STS9 is one of the most original, boundless, and spiritually guided bands in the universe...to my knowledge at least. Their music connects on so many levels, and one can get so much out of it everytime one listens to it. This is especially true with this album.
In contrast to some albums where there is so many musical influences and so much going on in a song that it ends up sounding jumbled and flooded, the songs on this record become complete only through the vastness of the individual instruments. And what's even better about this album is that many of the songs feature Kofi Burbridge on Flute...Amazing!!
Also, the music is great to trance out to. It is at times relaxing (as is the case with "Squares and Cubes") and at times its all that I can do to keep from dancing ("Kamuy" and "Mischief of a Sleepwalker").
Bear in mind that no record is going to be able to compare to a live show. So take it with a grain of salt. This album is cover-to-cover amazing. I would recommend it to anyone...be they fans of jazz, jam, trance, or just plain ole rock and roll. It's worth owning, there's just no arguing it.
oh, and p.s. sts9 is from Athens, GA.

Mood music, December 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace (Audio CD)
I will say that this band is not for everyone. A few of my friends do like it but the majority find it unintersting. To me this band is my life. Its meditative. It reflects my mood and puts a smile on my face. Its very primitive. Much like classical music, the melodies travels the music into different movements, state of minds if you will. Also much like classical african music roots it is very ryhtmic. Almost like each player is playing a percussion instrument for the most part. The whole band moves this music not one person. It is the best music I have ever heard. This music makes me feel alive. I get tingles down my spine when they get into that groove. It makes me want to create. It fuels my mind. This band is on the same level as I am. And they constantly are amazing and challenging me when I listen to them. Dont judge this band after listening to them for 5 minutes. Pop in a tape and go on a walk and listen to it for a long while. To me, this band is everything, its almost like a drug, if i don't get my sector 9 in the morning i never have really woken up.
