Nothing new but........,

This bootleg reminds me what is missing from the current ABB lineup. There is nothing new on this album at all but there are some very good versions of some classics - "Back where it all Begins"- and some rarer GS tracks like "Good Time Feeling". The real highlight however is the pure, clean country vocals of Dickey. Nobody can replicate it, it's totally unique, and it should be heard by all ABB and country fans.

This is by far the best live gig of his out on the market. Not only is the performance better than previous live cd's, this one has the best mix as well.

I have been seeing Dickey Betts with and without the Allman Brothers since 1975 and I've seen a good number of his shows over the years. Sadly, this isn't his best work although Dickey Betts on an off night is still very worthwhile.
The main difference is that Betts hardly sings at all here- 3 songs are instrumentals and of the remaining 7 cuts, other band numbers are either singing lead or drowning out Betts with their harmony vocals. There's not much evidence on these discs that there's much left in his voice after 4 decades on the road. As to the band, it's solid with good bass playing and drums. With 3 guitarists, it's hard to tell who is playing when but I do think the playing was a shade better with just Betts and Dan Toler. Vocals are not the set's strongest suit although te female vocalist isn't bad. As to the song selection, 9 of the songs are Allman Brothers standards with just one solo cut (Good Time Feeling, which is very good.) Although very good, these are not the best versions you'll hear on most of these songs. The set would have benifitted from including more rare songs and not just songs with many live versions already available. Including the "standards" only serves to higlight the fact that Betts has done these songs better in his past. For a better recent live set, I would check his Instant Live Set.

This is a creat CD . Betts finally has a band behind him. I like Dan Toler but this cd shows what was missing. I love Betts but have always been dissapointed in his solo work. Not this time, this is a keeper and hopefully a taste of things to come.

Any true fan of southern rock and roll should have this album. Does my hear good every time I listen to it. Yea the songs are a little worn and tattered, but Dickie does is still a stellar guitarist, and the rest of this band extremely accomplished. If you love live jam band music southern style this album is a must.

First of all, don't let the "Bootleg" in the title scare you off. The sound quality is excellent.
This is a great live album, similar to the DVD and the Instant Live release (I do recommend those two over this one), with pretty much the same set list, heavy on ABB standards, which is not a bad thing. No surprises will be found here, just a lot of great soloing and jamming, as expected. While Jerry Garcia chops where severely diminished over time, Betts has remained the Jam band guitar king!

Great music!!!,

This album is great. It's not perfect, but no live album should be. It has amazing versions of High Falls and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, and Back Where it All Begins. If there is any drawback to this cd, it could be that Seven Turns is not very strong, but again, this is a live cd, worts and all. Still well worth the $25! Betts fan for life!!!

Wondeful songs. Dicket Betts is one of the best musicians of our times. His sound is unigue. Really good quality for a live recording. Young kids that get turned on to Dicky Betts during Kid Rock shows in 2008, gather round the campfire and listen. This is where it all began.

I was at the Enfield, CT show that a few tracks on this cd are from, and it was probably the best show I saw that summer. This is quite simply a great document of the 2006 tour from one of the greatest guitarists in rock n' roll history (I would put him in the top ten) His band is great, the sound quality is great, and the jams are out of this world. A 12 minute version of Where It all Begins, and a 31 minute version of Liz Reed are gems that never drag despite their lengths. I love the Allmans but it really is BS they kicked him out. I think Greg was jealous that Dickey was playing too well and showing him up on stage. That's certainly what happened when I saw them in 1999 (and yes, I did party like it was 1999)

There is no escaping the enormous history Dickey finds himself a part of, nor is it easy to neglect his stellar abilities with the guitar; but is there anyone out there that can offer Mr. Betts some fresh songs to play. Even Warren Haynes has beat these songs to death and can't add anymore brightness to these otherwise classic tracks. Move on, write anew, or be gone. There is too much competition out there to allow oneself to wallow in history. It's an official bootleg because no one bothered to buy the real bootlegs.
