1.0 out of 5 stars 4x Writing Speed Only!, January 19, 2004

This review is from: Office Depot(R) CD-R Spindle, 700MB/80 Minutes, Pack Of 100 (Electronics)
Ugh, last time I try to save five or six bucks and go with these generic blank CD-Rs. First of all, they may be 700MB and 80mins, but they only support a FOUR TIMES writing speed! Welcome back to 1997.

With any modern burner out there capable of at least 20x burning, if you use these blanks you're still spending literally TWENTY minutes or more to burn a single CD. Your software will recognize this 4x limitation and slow down your burner during the recording process, regardless of how "fast" your burner is actually rated.

I'd return them but I've already blown through a few, reconfiguring my burning software while trying to get a faster burning speed out of them.

Even my two year old spindle of Memorex CD-Rs offers a "lowly" 12x burning speed! Waiting five or six times longer for a single burn just isn't worth my time, but I guess these are fine if you only have an older burner. They also have a HUGE, very ugly "Office Depot" logo covering the entire top half of the CD, in jet black ink.

I'm going to place an order for some new, 48x Memorex CD-Rs and store the remainder of this spindle in the Emergency Only Closet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately, a zero star rating is not possible..., June 16, 2009
This review is from: Office Depot(R) CD-R Spindle, 700MB/80 Minutes, Pack Of 100 (Electronics)
...Office Depot CD-Rs seem to be of the lowest quality. Used them to archive about a year ago and only very few are still readable. Of course, CD-Rs have a limited life-time, but I am sure a quality product wouldn't degrade after only 1 year.
