of Martha Moody. I picked up "The Office of Desire" after reading (and loving), "Best Friends". I was not disappointed. This book was a fascinating book, I could not put it down, and read it in just a few hours. I found the characters fascinating, and well crafted. Fantastic book, can't wait for more from Moody.

An unusual read,

This book by Moody was a very unusual read in its own way. It covered the doctors office in which there are two doctors and three supporting personnel along with spouses of the doctors, former and past. It covers their relationships with each other and what happens in the office as the relationships between the participants change. Though it does not go too far in completing the story it speaks through the voices of the various participants which was interesting. I enjoyed it.J. A decent story,
This review is from: The Office of Desire (Paperback)
I did enjoy this first book for me by Moody- The story kept me involved and wanting to find out where the characters ended up. My only complaint was some of the excess discritors of shrubs and office furniture. Other than that- nicely written.

Beach read?,

This book is not as much of a light-hearted dark comedy as some of the newspaper reviewers would have you believe. The ending of the book is tragic and not the best thing to be reading on the beach. Not to take away anything from the book, which was largely enjoyable, but I didn't like the fact that I took it with me to read on a beach vacation and wound up on the verge of tears at the end.

Well, I was extremely pleased with the first book by this author I enjoyed, so I was delighted to find this one by Dr Moody. I think this may have really been an earlier work, however, and it was really quite serious. The characters and interrelationships were interesting, if less humorous. I will be looking forward to more of her work!

I kept waiting for something more to happen. I enjoyed the changing chapters with Caroline and Hap, but it just seemed that the story continually whined on about nothing really. The book was about life in general, which was fine, but it just didn't seem to go anywhere. It was pretty predictable I thought. I hadn't read anything else by Moody, and based on this one, won't be in a rush to either.

I just finished this wonderful book and I truly hated to see it end! It's full of very real characters who are people I wish I could know. Lots of twists and turns and full of the "stuff-of-life". I highly recommend this book!

Riveting study of people and relationships,
This review is from: The Office of Desire (Hardcover)
Office of Desire is, without question, one of the most well written and insightful novels I have ever read. Moody develops and explores the characters masterfully - and pulls the reader in to the drama of their very human flaws and foibles. It is also very interesting to read about the inner workings of a medical - as portrayed by a physician-writer. Office of Desire - like Moody's first book Best Friends, works so well because Moody is particllarly adept at pulling threads from real life and weaving them into her stories. Her use of language and turn of phrase are beautiful. There are some lines that stay with you - haunt you. I recommend both this book and Best Friends heartily and without reservation!!!
