I looked about and finally settled on this desk. It really came down to the fact that the desk has a really wide keyboard tray and it's metal and glass.

So I got the desk and it was well packed, no damage. I put it together by myself without incident. All in all I have to say that I am very pleased with the quality of the workmanship and the materials. The desk is all metal with the exception of the keyboard tray and insert. The keyboard tray is particle board with what seems to be a really heavy vinyl cover and the insert is plastic. Oh yea, the desk top is glass. The metal has a nice powder coat matte black finish, pretty standard. Everything fit together well.

The desk is stable and sturdy and the keyboard shelf is pretty sturdy and slides well. I can't imagine what I'll use that tray insert for, but it's there. The glass top is smoked/brownish rather than the standard black. I kinda dig the curves, it gives the desk a distinctive look.

Putting the desk together was fine. The instructions are, well, not so much instructions as a couple pictures, but if you have ever assembled something before it's not a problem.

I have a few suggestions to anyone getting this desk:
- Don't tighten any of the screws completely until the desk is fully assembled.
- Clean the glass before you put in in. Part of the underside of the glass isn't easy to get to when installed.
- Flip the desk over to install the keyboard tray glides and feet of the desk.
- Be careful not to over-tighten the screws into the particle board of the keyboard tray as you'll strip the holes out. You don't need them super tight anyway as the tray actually sits on top of the supports.
- When you are tightening the screws at the end move the desk around a bit so that the pieces move into their final place.
- Tighten the glass last.

I recently did my apartment over and had to order a new computer desk. I searched and searched for something that would not be to big but would compliment my decor. I received the desk quickly and was a little intimidated by the weight of the box. I looked at the desk again online and saw how detailed it was and how FLAT the box was. I laid everything out on the living room floor and wanted to toss it out the window, it looked a little complicated. However after a friend and I sat down and started putting it together it wasnt bad at all. It took us about 40 minutes to get it together, once we were done I was impressed. My friend went online and ordered one for himself. Its sturdy, compact and it looks real good.

Overall this is a great desk, I'm very happy with it. Assembly is pretty easy, I did it by myself with no issues. The directions aren't particularly detailed but there aren't a ton of parts and you can intuitively figure most of it out anyways. The only tool you'll need is a basic philips screwdriver.

The frame is sturdy and has a quality black coating on it. It's also particularly nice that the front legs of the desk are very unintrusive, you won't hit your feet on anything while sitting up/down at the desk. It looks like you can build the desk without the keyboard tray (4 screws attach it that can be removed at any time), although it's possible that the structural rigidity of the desk will go down a bit without the tray (but it really shouldn't be an issue at all) -- this is a good thing if you just want the glass surface to work on.

The glass top is impressively thick and hefty. It has four metal knobs attached to it that secure it firmly to the frame. One spec that isn't mentioned online here is that the glass top is rated for 75lbs of weight maximum. Something to consider if you plan on putting a ton of stuff on the desk. (Personally, I would bet it could hold a few hundred pounds distributed across the surface no problem given the thick tempered glass. But who knows.)

All in all a great deal from Amazon, delivered to my door (with no sales tax) for about $170! Would recommend this highly.

This desk is fantastic, I would give it 6 stars if I could. Putting it together was a breeze (although the instructions were not that good). Looks great in my home office. It makes me feel like I'm in my old Manhattan office.

As described in another review, the package was beaten down after it arrived. There was nothing intact--with holes here and there. But, it did survive the violent shipping process. I think the problem was that the wrapping was bad and this item was a bit heavy. The carrier cannot get a good handle on this thing except the plastic tapes (or robes).

As for the instructions, I hope it has shown the instructions in more than 4 steps. Especially step 3 needs to be spit into two sub-steps to see clearly how it works. All mishaps happened when I applied small screw C in step 3. There were 4 to be screwed to the keyboard top (item 7) and 4 to be screwed to the keyboard tray frame (item 6). First of all, I have screwed the keyboard top on the wrong side (i.e., this can be prevented if it has been demonstrated more clearly in the step). Secondly, the distance of two holes on the tray frame is too short (i.e. this is a product design issue). So, you need to force the screws in with a good screwdriver.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the product after it was assembled. Give yourself at least one hour to work on this assembly.
