Amazon.com Review

Business professionals who need to familiarize themselves with digital publishing can turn to this book for insight on commonly used methods and technical considerations. The book focuses on using HTML and PDF (portable document format), together or separately, for delivery over the Web or an intranet, and on CD-ROM. The writers are from Adobe Systems, which creates such high-profile software programs as PageMaker, the desktop-publishing tool, and Photoshop, the image editor.

The authors start off by defining electronic publishing and then explaining the process of creating an electronic publication. They also deconstruct such elements of electronic publishing as image editing, illustration, multimedia, text, page layout, and Web and PDF authoring. As they get into the real process of creating documents, they explain how to prepare text and graphics, work with color, add interactivity, and convert print to electronic publications. They also explain how to manage and distribute publications, from optimizing, testing, and maintaining files to publishing on the Web, on a network, and on CD-ROM. There's also a chapter on optimizing Web graphics and a glossary.

This is an attractive full-color book with a simple approach, ideal for managers who need to plan publishing strategies and see to their completion, but who don't necessarily need to tackle the nitty-gritty tasks usually left to designers and technical experts. --Kathleen Caster

1.0 out of 5 stars A glorified Adobe Acrobat brochure, February 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Official Adobe Electronic Publishing Guide (Paperback)
With thick shiny pages, snazzy graphics, and brilliant color that one would find in a brochure, one comes to the conclusion that the book looks great but there is no substance. Most of the material is what one would find in an Adobe Acrobat advertisement - skip this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good discussions for beginners in the digital world, October 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Official Adobe Electronic Publishing Guide (Paperback)
I got a lot out of this book, actually. As a long-time digital print developer just newly exposed to other digital technologies, I found the discussions about the pros and cons of various electronic formats helpful. The information about online viewing/distribution impact upon layout was very helpful -- eye-opening actually. It is readable in one good sitting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Beginners, September 4, 2002
This review is from: Official Adobe Electronic Publishing Guide (Paperback)
This was an excellant book. If you are just starting out as a graphic designer, this book is a must have. The hardest part for me was trying to get my hands on a copy. This book gives great info to prepress, trapping, proofing, color correcting and the printing process. I would like to see more books like this one.
