"American Bandstand" was certainly a forerunner to the modern day music video-It enabled us to see our favorite performers up close & personal-Dick Clark brought us all the big names:Buddy Holly,Jerry Lee Lewis,Stevie Wonder,The Beach Boys,Jefferson Airplane,Creedence Clearwater Revival,The Jackson Five,Prince,& even Madonna-This set gives you most of the big hits from the 50's to the 80's-With the exception of "The Twist","Worst That Could Happen" & "White Rabbit",all the songs in this collection are the original versions as you remember hearing them on the radio-A definite must purchase for any oldies fan.

This is a great sampling of four decades of pop/rock music! It's interesting to listen to all eight CDs chronologically and hear the subtle changes in music from the 1950s to 1980s. For anyone who watched the television program, "American Bandstand," and for those who are too young to remember it, this is an entertaining trip through time from Buddy Holly to the Pointer Sisters.

I just picked this up at an auction on another site at a decent price, and boy was I happy!
It's an excellent collection. For newbies its a start to build on, for us oldies its a chance to fill in those empty spots.
Having a large collection of 45's, albums and cd's this was a nice fit to my collection.
Most of the 50's and 60's I already had, but the 70's & 80's provided a nice fill in to my collection.
To address others who have written on this set: The Twist appears to be a reworked version by Chubby, but close to the original. This being prior to the recently released Best of Chubby on Cameo/Parkway which has the original. The version of White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane is a live version but by the original group fronted by Grace Slick...and finally The Worst That Could Happen is by The Brooklyn Bridge with lead Johnny Maestro (RIP) doing a live version. I hate to disagree with a previous reviewer that claimed it was by the 5th Dimension.
All the other songs are the originals and sound just as you remembered them on the radio, mtv or from your own collections.
All in all this is a must buy, at the right price, for any newbie or collector who wants to fill in some missing spots in their collections. Nuff Said!

The set from Q Records is wonderful - there are gems from every decade to be found on each CD, and the whole set is a great example of the growth of rock n'roll from the 50s to the 80s. You should buy this set!!!!
